Job DescriptionUnder the direction of the Director of Recreation & Community Services, the Recreation Manager will manage and execute the coordination and logistics of Recreation & Community Services Department special events, aquatics, fitness programs, facility scheduling, marketing, sponsorships, staff scheduling, training, as well as perform other related duties as assigned. This position provides staff support to commissions and various committees and serves as the department head in the Director"s absence.
This position is a full-time position working 40 hours per week with a varied schedule including evenings, weekends and selected holidays for City events or programs.
Essential Job Functions
Duties may include but are not limited to the following essential job functions:
Participate in the development and implementation of Department goals, objectives, and policies
Management and direct oversight of Department events
Oversee Aquatics Program to include recruitment, training, certifications, supervision and evaluation of staff
Develop marketing strategies for Department programs and events
Supervise the scheduling of events and programming
Assist in obtaining event sponsorships and leverage partnerships in the community to execute events and programs
Oversee Department equipment and logistics to support programs and events
Oversee program and event contracts
Supervision/implementation of fitness programs for all ages
Oversee picnic shelter and facility reservations
Assist with the development and administration of the Department budget with the ability to effectively deal with the general public, manage program budgets effectively and establish staff and program guidelines
Management of the Department"s 5K/10K Race with an emphasis on course management and logistics
Work with outside organizations to collaborate and partner on special projects or events
Performs or assists with special projects, research, reports, and analysis as requested by the Director of Recreation & Community Services
Perform other duties and responsibilities as required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices and laws regulating public finance and fiscal operations. Desirable skills and abilities include:
Knowledge of modern principles and practices of recreation program development and administration
Knowledge of event production and execution
Knowledge of methods and techniques of effective administrative report preparation and presentation
Knowledge of principles and practices of budget preparation and administration
Knowledge of principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation
Knowledge of marketing concepts and trends
Ability to design, develop and implement recreation programs and events suited to the needs of the community
Ability to elicit community and organizational support for recreation programs
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing while promoting the values of the organization
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other Department staff, other City employees and the community/public.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: - Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, public administration, or related field with four (4) years of supervisory experience in recreation/event development and implementation. Additional Information
