Job description
The purpose of this part-time position is to teach college-level geology classes, typically one per quarter. Additional responsibilities of the position include consulting with the department chair on the course syllabi, pedagogy, and schedule, and to assess and report student learning outcomes according to the college’s outcomes assessment system.
Essential Functions:
· Provide exceptional classroom and laboratory instruction in geology courses including introduction to physical geology and environmental geology.
· Participate actively in the development, implementation, and monitoring of practices that promote a safe classroom and laboratory learning environment. Maintain, order, and inventory laboratory equipment necessary for weekly laboratory experiments.
· Collaborate collegially in the implementation of departmental processes, course materials, teaching methodologies, and assessment methods in order to increase student success in the sciences, including closing achievement/opportunity gaps between demographic groups.
· Incorporate pedagogies that support best learning practices for all students, particularly underrepresented and underserved students.
· Maintain equity and inclusion at the foundation of planning, preparing, and teaching classes and labs.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in geology.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Successful post-secondary teaching experience, preferably in a community college setting.
· Familiarity with the current state of geological science and with current issues and developments in geology and the sciences.
· Evidence of investment in professional growth and development in the area of equity and inclusion.
· Experience with a learning management system (such as Canvas).
· Experience creating digital content (such as Word/PDF documents and web and learning management system content as appropriate to the role) in accessible formats.
