Job description
The Grant Accountant reports to the Corporate Controller and manages a wide portfolio of government grants and initiatives by preparing all required financial reporting, reconciliations, and analyses in an accurate and timely manner. Tactical responsibilities include monitoring grant compliance, tracking and documenting all grant spending, managing accounts receivables and accounts payables for grants and initiatives, and providing all financial reporting required by grantors, leadership, and external auditors.
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain and monitor all grants/contracts awarded to the organization to ensure compliance with organizational policies/procedures and governmental/ agency/ awarding entity rules and regulations.- Process invoicing in accordance with each grant's specific timing and documentation requirements and ensure they are recorded accurately
- Perform regular grant accounts receivable follow-up, proactively identify funding issues, report concerns to leadership and Corporate Controller for corrective action
- Determine what payments apply to contracted pledges related to grant funded programs and record them timely and accurately
- Complete disbursement reports for grant reimbursement and monitoring. Compile and submit required back up reports and documentation.
- Generate supporting schedules for financial reports submissions. Assist with close-out process for grant funded programs.
- Work closely with program managers regarding budgets and funding
- Assist program managers with tracking grant spending
- Prepare internal accounting month-end closing, accruals entries, and grant cash flow analysis
- Assist with the monthly closing process including adjusting entries, account analysis and reconciliations for grant funded programs in a timely manner
- Perform a monthly budget vs. actual analysis for revenue related to grant funded programs
- Prepare and/or assist with the completion of all internal and external required financial reports
- Assist in audit preparation for all grantors' audit firms and or authorized representatives releasing timely and accurate information that has been approved by Corporate Controller
Qualifications
3+ years grant Accounting experience- Familiarity with State and Federal grant accounting guidelines. Department of Energy grants a plus
- Proficiency in Excel is required
- Detail oriented
- Strong change management skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, time management and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment with limited supervision
Education and Training Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance- Master’s degree a plus
