Description of Department:

The Office of Communications and Marketing supports the mission and goals of SUNY Oswego by building awareness (of people, place, and programs/facilities) among targeted audiences, and telling the story of SUNY Oswego through our students, faculty, staff and alumni to internal and external audiences. The office performs this communications and marketing work in its effort to enhance Oswego's reputation through its three core functions: Marketing; News/Media; and Design & Print Services. A staff of professionals serves colleagues all across campus in an integrated approach to deliver targeted marketing strategies and communication tactics, generate positive publicity in traditional and new media, develop website, digital and e-communication products, and/or produce engaging print communication. SUNY Oswego's Office of Communications and Marketing has been recognized for its work, receiving awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, Educational Digital Marketing.

The Office of Communications and Marketing at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill the position of Graphic Designer.

Description of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Director of Design and Print, the Graphic Designer/Publications Associate will support the marketing needs of the Office of Communications and Marketing and internal departments, with a focus on creative content development, layout, design, and editing. The successful candidate executes the production of print and digital pieces in a timely fashion and in alignment with university identity guidelines. The Graphic Designer will:

  • Design creative assets for use on all marketing channels, including but not limited to email, social media, and print.
  • Assist with proofing copy for all designed pieces, including but not limited to, posters, brochures, flyers, digital ads and print advertisements.
  • Delivers images, logos, or other assets managed by the Office of Communications and Marketing to clients as needed.
  • Assists in managing the department's digital asset library and relationships with media accounts such as SmugMug.
  • Work with faculty, staff, and students on project correspondence, specifications, proofing, record keeping, and customer service. The Graphic Designer will also liaise with external print vendors, SUNY Oswego's Chief Communication Officer and members of the communications and marketing staff as needed.

The Graphic Designer must be able to take direction from written or spoken ideas and convert them seamlessly into layouts and other designs. They must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or related field at time of application
  • Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat) on a Mac OSX workstation
  • Proficient with basic hardware and software troubleshooting
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task
  • Sound attention to detail and problem-solving capability
  • Ability to use feedback as an opportunity for improvement
  • Diverse experience in design for digital and print production.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of digital accessibility principles and Section 508 standards
  • Ability to identify, catalog and manage digital assets.
