DEFINITION OF POSITION: Manage the food service program at Pullman High School, including planning and preparing meals and supervising up to three staff members.


IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:
Nutrition Services Supervisor


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Possess a Washington State Food Handler’s permit
  • Experience supervising, managing, and directing staff
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Possess basic skills in reading, record keeping, and mathematics
  • One or more years of experience in commercial or institutional quantity food preparation
  • Experience with planning and catering in-house events
  • Experience with point of service computer program
  • Experience keeping production records
  • Experience working with young people
  • Experience working with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of post-secondary courses pertaining to quantity food production, food service management, nutrition, and sanitation
  • Willing to maintain and update abilities by attending workshops, food shows, and in-service programs

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and serve both breakfast and lunch with an emphasis on appetizing and appealing meals with high nutritive value
  • Direct staff members regarding job duties
  • Ensure that standardized recipes and portion controls are used
  • Maintain accurate inventory using FIFO system
  • Order appropriate amounts of food with respect to volume and cost control
  • Use of commercial kitchen appliances
  • Check goods received against orders and correct discrepancies
  • Maintain high standards of safety and sanitation to ensure the safety and health of staff and students
  • Meet USDA standards as they pertain to participation in both the National School Breakfast Program and the National School Lunch Program
  • Meet Smart Snack requirements in regard to selling products in the snack bar
  • Wash dishes and maintain kitchen cleanliness
  • Ability to consistently:

TERMS OF CONTRACT:

  • Salary: Unrepresented Classified Employee, Secondary Head Cook: $20.99 - $23.63 per hour
  • Length of Contract: 0 hours/day (7:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. with a half hour unpaid lunch period), 180 days per year
  • Benefits/Leaves: Medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per board policy.
