Job Description
Job Summary
Oversees all aspects of the college rodeo programs and facilities. Specifically, awards and manages scholarships, recruits students, produce rodeo productions, secures and maintains practice livestock and equipment, and establishes and enforces disciplinary standards of students participating in events as Texas A&M-Kingsville team members. Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work requirements indicate.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
50-70 % Coaching
Hold weekly practices. Recruit top rodeo athletes for the program. Accompany student athletes to National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) events. Provide or arrange for event coaching to improve student athletes skills and activities. Additionally, will be responsible for all activities associated with horse care and well-being at the TAMUK Rodeo Facility and horse barns
0-20% Teaching Responsibilities
Teaches up to two (2) courses per year if needed (e.g. on course one in the fall and one in the spring).
10% Student and Program Support
Provide early and continuous liaison and contact with officials of the NIRA. Cooperate with Registrar in certifying student eligibility and obtaining NIRA memberships. Coordinate entries of Texas A&M-Kingsville competitors in regional and national NIRA rodeos. Establish and enforce disciplinary standards of students participating in events as Texas A&M-Kingsville team members or representatives. Developmental or fund-raising to support TAMUK rodeo is also an expectation.
10% Administrative and Management
Award and manage scholarships and the overall Rodeo budget. Monitor, in cooperation with the Registrar and other University officials, academic and conduct of NIRA competitors. Secure and maintain practice livestock and equipment. Supervise Assistant Coaches, graduate assistant and student workers. Supervise and maintain practice facilities, stalls, and arena.
10% Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree.
Demonstrated knowledge of men's and women's rodeo events. Demonstrated fundraising success. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills.
Preferred Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in an Agricultural Discipline.
Master of Science in an Agricultural Discipline.
Four years of experience coaching rodeo.
