The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate the recruitment efforts for the healthcare curriculum at Surry Community College and act as the liaison between the school systems and business partners for Surry and Yadkin Counties. The Healthcare Career Liaison will work with healthcare business partners, and students of all ages to ensure the proper channels are being followed to pursue a successful educational pathway in health science fields. This person will ensure that students are aware of internship/apprenticeship opportunities, assist with applications, and follow through with the success of their program. They will also be responsible for the Strada Grant Fund distributions and reporting.

This is a 12- month, grant-funded position, with a proposed start date of December 1, 2022.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work with the Surry-Yadkin Works Director to facilitate all aspects of the project goals. This will include facilitating and coordinating middle school, high school, and adult healthcare information sessions and presentations, planning business and education meetings, overseeing recruitment and retention (both of students and business partners), developing relationships with students and parents in order to guide students to success, and coordinating and overseeing support services.

Work with the Advising Team at Surry Community College and each respective school system to inform and develop a pipeline of students for our healthcare program. The Liaison will develop relationships with students and parents in order to guide students to the successful completion of their high school diploma, their work-based learning experiences, and career-ready credentials.

Be the resource and guide for healthcare. They will work with students and potential students in our community to utilize and grow our partnerships in the healthcare industry. The service area will include the school systems of Elkin City Schools, Mount Airy City Schools, Surry County Schools, and Yadkin County Schools, being housed at the Dobson Campus of Surry Community College.

Oversees the project to ensure the creation of a successful and sustainable model of work-based learning placement in Surry and Yadkin County through the vision of Surry-Yadkin Works which may include grant writing for future funding. The Liaison will plan and implement work-based learning programs for middle school, high school, and adult students such as field trips, healthcare camps, career fairs, and job shadowing.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree related to health science, student development, counseling, human services, education, or an academic related field or Associates Degree with 10 years of health science experience. Experience/proficiency in the use of various software packages, effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to coordinate and prioritize duties.

  • Knowledgeable of secondary and post-secondary education and training
  • Knowledgeable of high school to college pathways
  • Knowledgeable of business and industry needs in the Healthcare Field
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate individual, small group, and large group meetings with minimal assistance, business meetings, advisory meetings, student/parent meetings
  • Ability to balance responsibilities between several school districts, multiple schools, the community college, and business/industry partners
  • Skilled in developing relations and partnerships with multiple stakeholder groups
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in health science and/or education, or a related academic field; Experience in academic advising, higher education administration, or online learning is preferred. Experience in online educational settings and work with students from diverse backgrounds.
