Candidates please note: This position is available on our weekend shift which consists of twelve (12) hours on Saturday and Sunday and eight (8) hours on Monday (the eight shift could be Friday instead of Monday); work thirty two (32) hours and get paid for forty (40) hours. Scheduled off days are Tuesday through Friday or Monday through Thursday depending upon the shift. Training will be on the Monday - Friday crew before being assigned to the weekend crew.
We are currently seeking qualified applicants to fill the role of heat treat operator at our facility in Barberton, Ohio!
A Day in the Life
If hired for this position, you will split your time between furnace operation and crane operation, performing heat treating functions and moving heavy components in support of site production efforts.
When operating furnaces, you will work with technical support to:
- Operate electric and gas furnaces to perform stress relief heat treat operations
- Clean, buff, and deburr products as required.
- Attach thermocouple wire in accordance with procedures. Make sketches of production loads, thermocouple locations on product, and indicate which recorder number relates to each thermocouple for furnace records
- Rig and move material to furnace car and load to provide most efficient heating cycle.
- Initiate furnace, monitor thermocouples and operate furnace by observing recorders and adjusting digital and analog controls
- Perform various heating and cooling cycles, maintaining time-temperature relations, along with specified temperature differences between thermocouples.
- Establish, layout, hook up and monitor cooling/purging equipment as required per procedure.
- Hook up equipment for dryout operations and take dew point readings.
- Maintain preheat in shop, in transit, and until furnace is operational
When operating cranes, you will:
- Operate overhead cranes through the use of radio and pendent controls, making single and unison lifts
- Roll, position, and transport material, products, and equipment using both hooks in unison when required or in conjunction with another crane
- Make precision lifts with large heavy material products and equipment
- Assemble, install, and torque hoist rings, bellybands and other lifting equipment as required
- Load and unload heat treat furnace and all transport vehicles as required
- Load and securely tie down vessels on railroad transfer cars and trailers; unloads as required
- Operate fork truck and pallet movers to transport materials as required
- Work from hand signals and verbal or written instructions; work from lift manuals and/or process as required
- Perform grinding/deburring of lift equipment
- Disassemble/assemble lifting equipment for NDE Inspection
Minimum Requirements
In order to thrive in this role, applicants must be able to safely perform the required job tasks. This includes, at a minimum:
- A high school diploma or GED
- A minimum combined three (3) years’ experience with heat treatment and crane operation
- Demonstrated computer literacy
- Demonstrated familiarity with furnace operation and heat treat practices
- Knowledge of weights and proper selection and use of lift equipment
- Ability to work from verbal and written instructions such as loading lists, QA procedures, manufacturing plans, sketches and prints
- Ability to work any shift
- Ability to pass all pre-employment processes, to include a thorough background check, drug screen, pre-employment physical examination, and written examination.

Pay for this position is $35.016 per hour.
