HEAVY EQUIPMENT / PLANTS MECHANIC
Cowden Gravel & Ready Mix specializes in aggregate and concrete needs. We are looking for an experienced individual to join our team of mobile mechanics. This Mobile Mechanic will work on our heavy equipment located at various locations throughout the county as well as our various mobile plants. While each job requires different demands, we expect all our mechanics to be physically capable of lifting 50 lbs., climbing fixed-ladders, performing plant and equipment inspections, and handling adverse weather conditions.
This Mechanic position is responsible for providing the maintenance and repairs on our fleet of heavy equipment consisting of loaders, dozers, excavators, graders, etc. as well as maintenance and repairs on our two concrete plants, screening, jaw, cone, and wash plants. The ideal candidate will have extensive heavy equipment mechanic experience, and an understanding of production plant operations. This is a full-time, day shift position working Mon - Fri, with some overtime and Saturday shifts as needed. 40-60 hours a week, overtime is paid after 40.
JOB DUTIES OVERVIEW
- Conduct daily preventative maintenance and routine maintenance to preserve quality and minimize downtime of all various heavy equipment
- Troubleshoot and diagnose breakdowns with accuracy and perform plant/equipment repairs safely and efficiently
- Willingness and ability to perform work at high elevations, in confined spaces, and in undesirable conditions for extended periods of time
- Assist a team of mobile mechanics
- Ability to prioritize projects
- Work well with parts manager to order parts and supplies
- Communicate well with fleet manager, mechanics, and equipment operators
- Must always be safety conscious, especially when using powered equipment, maneuvering equipment/vehicles, must warn others before performing repairs that will include loud noise, sparks or fumes. Wear eye and ear protection as required.
- Complete tasks as assigned by management
- Maintains a safety-first focus and communicates and reports incidents to Safety Manager immediately
QUALIFICATIONS
- Possesses relevant job skills - journeyman level
- Capability to read, communicate, and complete maintenance logs in English
- Has demonstrated job specific experience and knowledge
- Ability to repair and maintain heavy equipment
- Proficient in arc welding, using an oxy/ace cutting torch, & operating hand/power tools
- Fabrication, electrical, maintenance and repair experience
- Experience operating heavy equipment
- Trade School training (preferred)
- CDL (preferred)
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Capability to lift/carry 50+ lbs., sit, stand, climb, squat, bend, kneel, walk, use hands, and withstand adverse weather conditions consistently throughout work shift
- Negative pre-employment drug screen (required)
- Criminal and Employment Background Check will be conducted
- Eligibility to work in the US

- Competitive wages based on experience and qualifications. Range: $40-$50 per hour PLUS benefits
