Host/Hostess
Department: Dining Services
FLSA/Classification: Non-Exempt/Hourly
Reports to: Dining Room Supervisor and Director of Dining Services
Summary: To welcome all residents as they enter the dining room and thank them for coming after the meal, to take proper attendance of residents during meals times, to remove walkers and assist residents with seating, to manage reservations and ensure that they sit in the proper place, to assist wait staff when appropriate, to oversee closing and daytime work to ensure all assigned tasks are completed by wait staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Greet all residents as they enter the dining room with a warm smile.
- Take accurate attendance of all residents to give to Guest Services.
- Remove all walkers and wheel chairs to their designated areas.
- Assist residents with seating when necessary and appropriate.
- Manage all reservations, greet them as they enter the dining room, walk each party to their appropriate seats.
- Help run room trays, food, and take orders as necessary.
- Oversee closing and daytime work to ensure all assigned tasks are completed by wait staff.
- Discuss with the Director of Dining Services about deep cleaning schedules, staffing changes, and other daily tasks that must be completed.

Minimum Education/Skills/Experience/Credentials:
- Prefer 1-3 years restaurant or institutional food service experience, including knowledge of food handling, service, and sanitation.
- A sanitation certificate from the Illinois Department of Public health is desired.
- Good communication and leadership skills.
- Outgoing and bubbly personality.
- A strong desire to assist residents whenever necessary to ensure that their rights and needs are being met.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the ability to stand and walk 6 -7 hours of an 8 hour shift.
- Must have the ability to sit for 1 hour of an 8 hour shift.
- Must have the ability to frequently lift and carry supplies and equipment 10 to 50 pounds while walking or bending at the waist and knees.
- Must be able to frequently reach above shoulders, to the front and sides.
- Must have the ability to frequently push carts with dishes and supplies exerting a force of up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to use wrists, fingers, and hands for repetitive firm grasping.
