As a JOEY Restaurants Human Resources Manager, you play a key role in advancing our people initiatives, acting as a strategic partner to our Human Resources and Operations teams, and driving functional excellence and process improvement. The Human Resources Manager is a highly visible, hands-on position with considerable responsibility for multiple human resource functions. This collaborative leader will provide education and support to store and upper management, ensuring all teams are functioning in accordance with legislative and regulatory policies and procedures consistent with sound employment practices and restaurant operations. This evolving role will be responsible for coaching the Human Resources Coordinator and US Payroll team, and will partner with senior-level members of the Human Resources department on developing, implementing, and auditing policies and procedures; lead employee relations initiatives and investigations; assess risk management; promote diversity and inclusion initiatives; identify recruitment strategies; assist with benefits and compensation planning and analyses; and research and stay current on various other compliance matters.
Essential Functions:
- Develop, communicate, implement, and facilitate human resources compliance programs, policies, and other rollouts that support business goals and drive results while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Manage and execute core human resources initiatives for the company, including but not limited to, wage and hour, required postings/notices, government reporting, record keeping, leaves of absence, employee relations, workers compensation, performance management, diversity and inclusion, risk management, recruitment, benefits and compensation, etc.
- Ensure consistent application of human resources policies and procedures, in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act), ACA (Affordable Care Act), FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act), paid sick leave, workers' compensation, and unemployment.
- Protect the interests of employees and the company in accordance with company human resources policies and governmental laws and regulations; maintain minimal company exposure to lawsuits.
- Research and monitor changes in human resources compliance requirements and proactively and collaboratively update related policies and procedures ensuring successful implementation of changes across all restaurants.
- Coach and develop the Human Resources Coordinator and US Payroll team on personal performance and compliant policies, systems, and procedures.
- Partner with operations managers and the Recruiting Manager in recruitment strategies.
- Utilize open-door policy to acknowledge employee incidents and concerns in a timely manner.
- Conduct investigations in response to employee complaints about wage and hour, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, etc.
- Advise on disciplinary measures for employees not meeting performance expectations and/or found in violation of company policy.
- Coach operations managers in employee performance reviews and development processes.
- Advise on sensitive issues involving guests and JOEY employees.
- Report on information learned through employee focus groups and engagement surveys.
- Ensure that legally mandated safety training and OSHA compliance protocols are current, maintained, and being followed.
- Provide information to employees on company-provided benefit programs.
- Oversee employee personnel file audits.
- Assist with preparation of information requested or required for compliance with laws.
- Assist in legal matters.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, Labor Relations, or related field.
- PHR, SHRM-CP certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local employment practices and regulations.
- Preferred Qualifications:
- SPHR, SHRM-SCP certification.
- Prior high-volume experience in restaurant, hospitality, or retail industry.

Physical Requirements/Environment/Working Conditions:
- Hybrid; Field & Remote 25-50%
- Store and office environment. Extended periods of walking and standing.
- May also require some reaching, bending, squatting, and lifting a minimum of 20lbs.
- Some exposure to chemicals, fire, gases, and odors.
- Standard office equipment, including PC, laptop, copier, fax machine, printer.
Annual Salary Range:
$90,000 - $100,000 per year
