The Position
The Adler Planetarium is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our dynamic team located on Chicago's Museum Campus. The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing an outstanding employee experience through all employee relations, performance management and learning & development processes. This position will spend most of the time handling performance and employee relation (ER) matters so if you love ER or are interested in advancing your skills, this is the job for you. This individual will also be responsible for:


  • Building strong relationships with Adler staff members and providing support with Performance Management and Employee Relation matters.
  • Coordinating and communicating with departments across the organization to identify learning and development needs.
  • Performing regular maintenance on our online learning platform Adler U.
  • Completing special projects by clarifying project objectives; setting timetables and schedules; conducting research; developing and organizing information; and delivering results.
  • Training new hiring managers and interview participants on recruiting and interview standards and processes to ensure compliance with EEO and Affirmative Action Plan requirements.

Base Pay: $60,600

The Person
We are looking for an individual with strong oral and written communication skills who has the ability to multitask while staying organized. Someone that will take initiative and has a desire and willingness to learn. A hard worker that can manage their responsibilities effectively by prioritizing work tasks and maintaining boundaries for those priorities. A people person that can build rapport, credibility, and foster working relationships across departments while remaining firm on established policies and procedures.


Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree or five plus years professional work experience
  • Two years experience in an HR concentration such as employee relations, training and development, or recruitment, etc.
  • Two years of experience working with an HR Information system
  • One year of experience with performance management and learning & development
  • Knowledge of recruitment and onboarding related processes and affirmative action plans
  • Competent with Excel, ability to develop and compile reports


Preferred Qualifications:
  • PHR or SHRM-CP Certification
  • HR experience in a museum/cultural institution and/or non-profit environment
  • Experience working with ADP Workforce Now
  • Experience with online learning platforms
  • Experience working with Google G Suite products
