Summary

The IT Development Manager supervises and coordinates the activities of the development team who ensure that all SQL based applications and database systems are functioning efficiently and effectively for proper support of the business requirements for Replacement Parts, Inc., the corporate office of Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop the individuals responsible for application and database systems
  • Design data modeling/analysis services used to mine enterprise systems and applications for knowledge and information that enhance business processes
  • Oversee the building, deploying, and maintaining of data support tools, metadata inventories, and definitions for database file/table creation
  • Continuously improve processes for converting data from one system to another
  • Select and implement appropriate application development frameworks and tools
  • Monitor ETL and data conversion processes to ensure they run appropriately every day, and create exception reporting to facilitate communication
  • Define standards and guidelines for the use and acquisition of software to protect vulnerable information
  • Develop data models describing data elements and how they are used
  • Develop methods for integrating different products so they work properly together, such as customizing commercial databases to fit specific needs
  • Review project requests describing user needs to estimate time and cost required for delivery
  • Ensure data definitions are developed for new or changed database files/tables
  • Review and revise as appropriate company definition of data as defined in data dictionary
  • Work with application development staff to coordinate the creation and management of data queries
  • Collaborate with unit managers, end users, development staff, and other stakeholders to integrate data mining applications with existing systems
  • Provide and apply quality assurance best practices for data mining/analysis services across the organization
  • Develop, implement, and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to data models and business applications
  • Collaborate with database and disaster recovery administrators to ensure effective protection and integrity of data and application assets
  • Monitor database and application performance, including stored procedures and execution time, and implement efficiency improvements as necessary
  • Writes recommendations for management review.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises 3-7 employees in the IT Development Team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and twelve to fifteen years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have strong knowledge and experience with MS SQL and/or PostgreSQL, hands on experience with the Microsoft Office suite of products, and knowledge of ODBC, JCDB, JSON, XML, linked servers, and data replication is required. Experience with Interbase, FireBird, and Unidata database is helpful. The individual must also have detailed knowledge of internet and web application development.

A valid driver’s license and clean driving record is required.
