About our opportunity:
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Inventory Specialist for Harrah's Cherokee Center of Asheville. The purpose of this position is to maintain, receive, store, and issue materials, supplies, tools, and equipment for an assigned department.
This position is a temporary/seasonal position. This position will NOT be eligible for benefits, paid leave time (vacation, sick, holiday) nor participation in the retirement system.Initial review of applications will occur on 9/30/22. This position will remain open until if closing date listed or until a sufficient number of applications are received.
- Maintains inventory levels parts, tools, supplies, and equipment to ensure adequate materials for completion of work activities for assigned department: reviews inventory reports and upcoming department projects and activities to determine needed materials; confirms quantity on hand; reviews usage; researches and evaluates suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, distribution capabilities, etc.; prepares requests for quote for new items; and creates and submits purchasing documents for verified qualified vendors.
- Issues parts, tools, supplies, orders, or other items: fills work orders for parts and supplies from inventory; pulls stock to fill work orders; reviews work orders to ensure accuracy and closes out completed work orders; and maintains logs/records of all materials checked out or issued.
- Processes inventory at receiving; receives materials, equipment, and supplies: verifies shipping and packing lists; performs accurate count of incoming materials; runs receiving report; and performs basic data entry. Shelves and stores materials, equipment, and supplies: ensures proper shelving of inventory; updates stocking levels; maintains inventory locations; ensures proper inventory labeling; and maintains related records and documentation.

- Conducts physical inventory count: performs inventory test counts, sight inventory, and low stock checks and adjustments; verifies and adjusts inventory records, as needed; and resolves inventory variance reports.
- Maintains safety and cleanliness of warehouse and storage areas: performs daily inspection of the warehouse and surrounding area for unauthorized entry and potential unsafe working conditions; performs general cleaning and housekeeping tasks; and alerts supervisor to problems and concerns as needed.
- Depending on area of assignment, may also perform the following duties: delivers and distributes supplies to workstations; assists with equipment maintenance and routine repairs; coordinates fuel key distribution and maintains related records; and assists with disposing of surplus items.
- Communicates with supervisor, other City employees, vendors, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
- Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives, reviews, prepares, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate various forms, reports, correspondence, work orders, invoices, quotes, inventory reports, purchase requisitions, shipping labels, timesheets, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
- Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, or other software; operates a forklift; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required, with vocational or technical training in area of assignment; supplemented by one year of experience in inventory management, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
- Must possess and maintain Forklift certification.
Knowledge:
- Advanced knowledge of procedures and practices to analyze and resolve unusual or difficult problems.
- Ability to read and understand basic workplace data, such as simple forms, tables, graphs, schedules, etc.
- Ability to conduct advanced research on organizational policies and procedures, best practices and innovative techniques.
- Ability to compile data into a formal report or recommendation shared with others and often verbally presented.
- Ability to think creatively in all areas for the purpose of increasing efficiency and effectiveness.
- Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written form.
- Ability to analyze situations to pinpoint problems and assist with solving problems or identifying sources of obstacles.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships as required by work assignments.
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
