PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Responsible for handling law enforcement matters throughout the district and maintain a safe learning environment, conducive to learning, in order to achieve their maximum potential.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or equivalent, required
Current Texas Peace Officer’s license issued by TCOLE, required
Valid Texas driver’s Class C license, required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Incident Command System Training 100
Demonstrate ability to work effectively with Pupils and the Public
Demonstrate ability to write effective, correct and legally complete offense report
Experience:
Five (5) years of experience as a police officer, preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. To provide continuous investigations of all crimes reported to the police department where the patrol division, by reasons of geographical limitations and primary functions cannot complete.
2. Presently responsible for continuing investigations of any and all crimes reported to the police department, which originate within the corporate boundaries of McAllen ISD. These crimes vary in nature from class “C” misdemeanors to felonies, to capital offenses. Some of these investigations are lengthy, complex, controversial and difficult requiring an investigator to devote an extensive amount of time, including overtime, to them and even requiring the assistance of a second investigator.
3. Must be prepared to work more than his required eight hours and also to work well with other officers and agencies.
4. Required to make sound and strategic technical decisions. These decisions are sometimes made “on the spot” under adverse and stressful situations. These decisions required that the Investigator be knowledgeable of all criminal laws and procedures and must possess the ability to apply this knowledge in everyday practical situations as they relate to criminal investigations.
5. Required to perform such duties as conducting interviews with witnesses, victims and other individuals who have information necessary and useful to the investigation.
6. Required to write technical reports, affidavits and other documents necessary and pertinent to the investigation detailing the information and facts he has gathered as a result of the investigation.
7. Required to process crime scenes, photograph and process prisoners, prepare search warrants, conduct surveillance, prepare complaints, warrants, and commitments, arraign prisoners, use whatever resources available to him/her in order to obtain the necessary information for the investigation, keep constantly aware of the changing laws and investigative techniques, collect evidence in accordance with the rules of evidence collection, provide court testimony.
8. Responsibility of carrying every investigation to its logical conclusion and at the same time prepares the investigation with as much strength as possible for successful prosecution.
9. Required to have a high degree of motivation and initiative and must perform his duties and responsibilities within a time limit imposed upon him by laws, code of criminal procedures, departmental policies and the circumstances of the situation being investigated.
10. Required to organize his workload to obtain the maximum productivity of his time and efforts for each and every investigation.
11. Responsibilities and requirements are not limited to those mentioned in this notice. An Investigator may be required to perform other duties as assigned by his immediate supervisors and the Chief of Police.
12. Enforce all rules and regulations promulgated by the Board of Trustees of McAllen ISD within the district and procedure guidelines.
13. Take such other actions within the guidelines set forth in the “Procedures Manual”, as the police officer deems reasonably necessary in order to fulfill the objectives set forth in the “Procedures Manual”.
14. Must be able to meet TCOLE weapons proficiency requirements.
15. Demonstrate the willingness to work well with others.
16. Must adapt to change, desire for self-improvement and work with minimum supervision. Accepts coaching in areas needing improvement.
17. Must resolve problems effectively.
18. Must maintain compliance of all rules and regulations, policy and procedures and all written and oral directives.
19. Maintain training hours and obtain certifications or licenses required to qualify for promotion.
20. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
21. Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator).

Flashlights, radios, handcuffs, and department vehicles. Computer and office equipment.

Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) in English; maintain emotional stress under control; exhibit rapid mental decision making ability to effectively handle disturbances or distractions
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
While performing the duties of this job, it is required to maintain emotional control under stress, Strenuous and long periods of walking, standing, crawling, crouching , and climbing; ability to operate a motor vehicle; specific hearing and visual requirements 20/20 (corrected); ability to chase after someone (stamina), occasionally lift and/or move up to (100) pounds (assist someone to safety) control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. May be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions including violent and armed confrontations. Work outdoors in varying climate conditions; drive in all different areas of district at odd hours; being placed on-call, rotating shifts; work alone and irregular hours including weekends and holidays.

Hourly Pay Range:
Minimum: $21.58
Midpoint: $25.69
Maximum: $29.80
Note: Starting pay for a new hire in a pay range plan will be determined individually based on each person's job-related experience and salaries paid to peer employees in the same position with similar experience.
