Headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating nine institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide.

Hiring range: $26.863 - $37.711/hour. Pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints, if approved.
The individual in this position will possess the skills to be able to install and document all aspects of a network such as enterprise wireless access points, switches, firewalls, and routers. Provide project management for NDCS IT projects.
Leadership: Serves as functional lead (coordinates work efforts, assigns work, prepares project/work plans, monitors work progress, and prepares project progress reports).
Business Process Analysis: Confer with NDCS facilities for business and networking needs and requirements. Documents appropriate business rules, policies and standards.
Automated Systems Support: Provides technical instruction/assistance to NDCS facilities on how to use automated applications. Investigates reported system and network malfunctions and document findings (solve user errors). Communicates with appropriate facility staff on identified malfunctions. Analyzes IT infrastructure and business system operation/function solutions for feasibility. Documents business system operation/functions and proposed changes/modifications. Participates in system analysis and design. Travel to NDCS facilities to perform system testing.
Administrative: Responsible for creation and maintenance of business training and support material.
REQUIREMENTS: Experience in the analysis of business processes and system requirements, and the creation of business process solutions for large-scale business system applications.
PREFERRED: Associates degree and 3 years of experience supporting criminal justice applications and business processes. OR, post high school course work plus 4 years of experience supporting criminal justice applications and business processes. Experience in network infrastructure, server administration, switches, routers, firewalls, wireless.
OTHER: Must have valid driver's license. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: a medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
Knowledge of data networking, WiFi, switching, firewalls, routers or server architecture; project management. Perform trouble shooting, and repair of wireless and data network hardware/software provided by the Office of the CIO to include LAN hardware/software, network security and server hardware/software.
Skill in: facilitation to solve problems; using scientific methods to solve problems; information gathering; conveying users perspective to technical people in technical language and technical perspective to users in non-technical language; identifying the nature of problems; coordinating work activities of others, assigning work to others, preparing project/work plan, and monitoring work progress; experience with servers, routers, firewalls or switches.
Ability to: communicate information to others; prepare reports; give presentations, recognize and identify problems; apply general rules to specific problems to come up with logical answers; combine and organize different pieces of information into a meaningful pattern; recognize potential issues based on customer input; analyze data or information; obtain information needed to do the job; document/record information; organize, plan and prioritize work.
