IT Support Specialist

White County will be accepting applications for the position of IT Support Specialist to work in the White County IT Department. JOB TITLE: IT Support Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Network/Information Technology, White County

JOB SUMMARY: The primary focus of this position is end user support. This may be with hardware, such as desktop computers, printers, scanners or handheld devices or it may be with software programs. Assuring the reliability and availability of all County mission critical information technology operations.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Installing and configuring computers, printers, and other peripheral devices.
  • Installing and configuring new software applications on computers, as well as preforming updates to current applications.
  • Responding to and following-up on user support calls and managing tickets via a helpdesk system.
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving software, network, printer, Internet, email, and other information technology related problems.
  • Availability for emergency response during non-business hours.
  • Installing network cabling, trace, and locate cables, terminate cabling to a patch panel, etc.
  • Assist users with Mobile devices when needed.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the IT Director.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

  • Knowledge of operating the following equipment: Windows Based Operating Systems, MS Office Suite, Basic Computer Hardware, Peripherals – Printers, Scanners, Faxes – VOIP systems.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and in writing.
  • Ability to work under pressure, with accuracy, and meet important deadlines.
  • Knowledge of applicable State and Federal laws, rules, regulations, local ordinances,
  • County policies, Information Technology policies and procedures and personnel policies.
  • Ability to maintain composure, follow directions, and use common sense in responding to crisis and emergency situations with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Ability to continuously update skill and stay current with technology.
  • Ability to apply analytical and technical skill and expertise and be capable of thinking logically, paying very close attention to details.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: This position answers directly to the Information Technology Director

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include accepted professional practices, industry wiring standards, Internet-use guidelines, software licensing agreements, and county policies and procedures. These generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to provide technical assistance to computer users and network operations. Successful performance in this position contributes to the effective support of computer system users, which facilitates further work processes for the entire county.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: Has contact with co-workers, employees, department heads, elected officials, vendors, public sector employees, and the public. Contacts require a moderate to high degree of tact, skill, and resourcefulness and involve highly to moderately important communications.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Performs the following physical activities; climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting,

grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Performs heavy work which

may require lifting up to seventy (70) pounds occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office environment with some duties requiring outside exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: None.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • A basic working knowledge of MS Windows and MS Server operating systems and familiarity with mobile device operating systems.
  • Must be able to work overtime and weekends on an “as needed” basis.
  • Must have professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Ability to troubleshoot defective workstation computers and laptops and be comfortable with replacing physical components of each.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize duties.
  • Ability to learn skills quickly with a mature and service-oriented attitude.
  • Personable, articulate, and knowledgeable.
  • Must have valid Georgia Driver’s License.
