The Construction Journeyman (Electrician) supports electricians in the installation, maintenance, operation and repair of electrical systems. They assist with and perform installation and maintenance tasks in order to ensure the effective operation of various electrical equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Use supplied tools, equipment and safety instructions.
  • Strive towards apprentice goal attainment and certifications.
  • Maintain a clean and safe workplace in accordance with site policies.
  • Possess the ability to understand schematics and technical manuals
  • Assist the Electrician, which may involve doing basic tasks such as handling the tools, and it may also involve working independently from the Electrician at times on electrical tasks that require less skill or experience
  • Collaborate with other electrical staff to identify and solve problems.
  • Complete electrical wiring tasks, alignment adjustments, and calibration of equipment following manuals, schematics, diagrams, blueprints and equipment specifications.
  • Use educational training for learning all procedures for installing and maintaining electrical systems as well as local and federal regulations and safety requirements.
  • Assists with and completes maintenance work orders on electrical equipment. This includes testing malfunctioning equipment, identifying defects, troubleshooting, repairing equipment and replacing defective parts.

Education/Certifications:

High School diploma or equivalent.

Obtain Electrical Trainee Certification according to state requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience.
  • Good verbal, spelling and follow directions skills.
  • Previous apprentice experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of electrical codes a plus.
  • Have basic health and safety awareness.
  • Timekeeping, reliability, ability to work as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake formal training relating to successful achievement of apprenticeship.
  • Flexibility with regards to the work location, hours of work and duties.
  • Basic computer skills.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Continually required to stand, sit and walk
  • Frequently required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl
  • Continually required to talk or hear
  • Continually exposure to wet and/or humid conditions (non-weather) and work near moving mechanical parts
  • Occasionally work in high, precarious places, around fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals
  • Continually exposure to outside weather conditions and vibration
  • Occasional exposure to risk of radiation
  • While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually very loud
  • The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 100 pounds/ continually lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Specific job duties that are affected by the environmental conditions selected above:
  • Environmental conditions drive every second of field work

Field and site work:

  • Site walks and inspections
  • Mobilization and demobilization of field programs
  • Field/Construction Operations
