Summary of Position: The Junior Accountant is responsible for properly recording all payments, expenditures and cash transactions, including but not limited to credit card transactions, re-occurring monthly bills, employee reimbursements, and direct client assistance. This position supports the Finance Department by maintaining historical records, verifying expense reports, recording daily bank transactions, preparing journal entries and processing check requests.
Position Type: This position is non-exempt and reports to the Senior Staff Accountant.

  • Participate in monthly close processes by preparing and recording monthly journal entries with supporting documentaion.
  • Manages accounts payable process, ensuring timely payment of invoices, confirming validity of the debt and gathering appropriate signatures.
  • Processing receivables and scanning in checks for deposits.
  • Process and prepare employee reimbursements
  • Assist with the processing of empoyee card of employee credit card transactions.
  • Partcipate in the annual audit.
  • Assist with administrative duties such as but not limited to filing and binding documents.

Other Duties: As assigned by the Senior Staff Accountant.
Work Environment: Generally, this position operates in a professional office environment. The hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Physical Demands: Physical Demands are part of the essential functions of the position. The individual must be able to remain in a stationary position throughout the workday, operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, frequently communicate with employees of VOA of IL, and external professional contacts.
Qualifications:

  • Knows the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP.)
  • Demonstrates strong technical accounting skills.
  • Works well independently and has adept organizational and time management skills.
  • Collaborates well with colleagues and has strong social skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to problem solve.
  • Moderate to advanced Excel skills and familiar with accounting systems like Intacct.

Education and Experience:
This position requires an Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, economics, business or a related major is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $38,000.00 - $46,000.00 per year
