Position Purpose: As a secondary staff person, the Junior Camp Counselor is responsible for the safety, well-being and supervision of the campers. All assigned duties will be performed in a manner reflecting the YMCA of the USA character development traits of honesty, caring, respect and responsibility.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers in the group and camp-wide and ensure a risk-free environment for all.
- Assist with the implementation of activities in accordance with the camp schedule, submitting written plans prior to each week or as assigned by Camp Director.
- Maintain positive relationships with campers, parents, and staff.
- Organize and maintain camp equipment, supplies, and property.
- Actively participate in all aspects of the day camp schedule as assigned.
- Maintain camp records including, but not limited to: accident & incident reports, sign in/out sheets, attendance documents, etc.
- Maintain ACA requirements/ratios and help others do the same.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Must be at least 16–17 years old
- Prior experience working with children, preferred
- Experience in Specialty program areas such as Arts and Humanities, Sports, Environmental Education or Aquatics, preferred
- Ability to effectively use technology for programmatic needs
- Attend all required pre-camp and camp season training and meetings as scheduled
