Project FIND’s mission
is to provide low- and moderate-income and homeless seniors with the services and support they need to enrich their lives and live independently. Today Project FIND operates three supportive housing residences that are home to about 600 people and four senior centers with over 3,000 members. Our members and residents range from the healthy and active to the frail and homebound to the homeless. For all these individuals, Project FIND is a critical resource, providing housing, meals, and programs that help individuals navigate the challenges of aging by encouraging community engagement and healthy living.

Job Summary:


The ideal candidate will ensure members receive their breakfast and lunch and help maintain cleanliness in the kitchen and dining area of the center.


General Responsibilities:

  • Assist with preparing, handling, and serving breakfast and lunch.
  • Assist with taking meal temperatures as needed.
  • Wash, sanitize, and store all utensils, pots, pans, and other food service equipment.
  • Clean, sanitize, and set up the dining room area as needed.
  • Receive, unpack, store and label food and supplies.
  • Assist with cleaning kitchen and kitchen equipment.
  • Assist with logging inventory and upkeep of food storage areas.
  • Attend mandatory in-service trainings.
  • Take and record refrigerator and freezer temperatures in the mornings and afternoons.
  • Follow New York City Department of Health (DOH) and the New York City for the Aging (DFTA) program policies
  • Adhere to kitchen cleaning schedule.
  • Empty waste baskets and garbage cans as needed.
  • Perform other tasks and special projects as assigned by task supervisor(s) and Program Director.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required and/or prior experience in a kitchen position (preferably with senior center experience).
  • Ability to lift heavy objects.
  • Willingness to attend staff meetings and required training as necessary.
  • Able to learn basic tasks and willingly follow written and oral instructions.
  • Able to work effectively and patiently with seniors and volunteers.

Schedule:


We currently have two open positions:


1st Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. with Tuesday and Sunday off. Please note that this position requires the availability and flexibility to occasionally work Wednesday and some holidays (i.e., Thanksgiving).
