Key Accountabilities

Description
Laboratory Inventory
  • Maintains adequate inventory of scientific glassware for several laboratory areas.
  • Collects used glassware from assigned laboratory areas.
  • Refurbishes glassware holding areas after pickup.
  • Carefully transports glassware to and from washing facility.
  • Maintains and procures supplies for particular laboratories.


Glassware Washing
  • Washes glassware according to protocol specified by the investigator.
  • Autoclaves media and other items as requested by investigators.
  • Removes all labels and tapes; unplugs pipettes; dries and re-plugs pipettes; prepares pipettes for autoclaving; visually inspects pipettes for cleanliness; brushes glassware when needed; places in machines for washing and drying. Removes glassware from washing/drying machines; checks visually for cleanliness.
  • Places glassware on carts and delivers to laboratory of origin, drying rack, or storage area.
  • Dries and plugs pipettes. Places in canisters for sterilizing in the autoclave.
  • Wraps glassware in foil for autoclaving.
  • Changes out washer detergents.
  • Cleans washers/filters.
  • Maintains clean working environment.
  • Works with drying oven as needed.

Laboratory and Facility Assistance
  • Assists laboratory personnel with various tasks.
  • Calls into facilities and describes problems or notifies facility supervisor when glassware washing equipment is not operating properly.
