Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist
Job description
General Definition and Scope of Job
Involved with registration, collection, processing, and quality control of specimens, receives and instructs patients, processes lab orders and distributes laboratory reports.
JOB STATUS: Casual (as needed)
What are the Minimum Skills, Experience and Educational Requirements?
- High School Diploma.
- Ability to read, speak and write English effectively; and be able to demonstrate skill in communication, both written and spoken.
- Proficient use of computers.
- Phlebotomy training certification preferred.
- Experience preferred.
What are the Critical Demands of the Job?
- Physical ability to respond to emergency and patient care needs.
- Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment, use computer terminals, draw blood specimens, perform laboratory tests, etc.
- Ability to lift 20 pounds.
- Must be able to work independently and be self motivated.
- Willingness to work flexible hours based upon the needs of the department.
What are the Working Conditions?
- Works with infectious and/or hazardous biological and chemical materials.
- Work is stressful at times.
- This job involves direct patient care.
Schedule:
- 8 hour shift
- Weekend availability
Education:
- High school or equivalent (Required)
Experience:
- Phlebotomy: 1 year (Preferred)
