General Definition and Scope of Job

Involved with registration, collection, processing, and quality control of specimens, receives and instructs patients, processes lab orders and distributes laboratory reports.

JOB STATUS: Casual (as needed)

What are the Minimum Skills, Experience and Educational Requirements?

• High School Diploma.
• Ability to read, speak and write English effectively; and be able to demonstrate skill in communication, both written and spoken.
• Proficient use of computers.
• Phlebotomy training certification preferred.
• Experience preferred.

What are the Critical Demands of the Job?

• Physical ability to respond to emergency and patient care needs.
• Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment, use computer terminals, draw blood specimens, perform laboratory tests, etc.
• Ability to lift 20 pounds.
• Must be able to work independently and be self motivated.
• Willingness to work flexible hours based upon the needs of the department.

What are the Working Conditions?

• Works with infectious and/or hazardous biological and chemical materials.
• Work is stressful at times.
• This job involves direct patient care.

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Weekend availability

Education:

• High school or equivalent (Required)

Experience:

• Phlebotomy: 1 year (Preferred)
