Salary Range: $48.12 - $66.33
Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.
Position Summary:
- Performs all duties of the Director of Laboratory Services, in his/her absence, as well as those duties listed below.
- Assist the Director of Laboratory Services as requested.
- Has responsibility for services at all Lompoc Healthcare District Facilities (Acute Hospital, Comprehensive Care Center and Lompoc Health Clinics) in the absence of the Director.
- Must be able to perform duties of Clinical Laboratory Scientist including testing and associated quality control and preventative maintenance activities in all areas of the laboratory.
- General supervision and oversight of laboratory (e.g., maintaining inventory control, assisting in compliance with accreditation standards, training new employees, and submitting quality control reports for review)
- Assist in managing Quality Assurance activities required by regulatory agencies and Lompoc Healthcare District
- Organizational oversight of technical staff competency and training
- Organizational management of technical documents
- Assist in development of new tests and instrumentation.
- Participate in team activities and quality improvement; ensures that quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner in conjunction with other Lompoc Healthcare District Departments

- Treat staff, physicians, patients and families with consideration and respect.
- Interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s age specific needs and provide the care needed by the patient group.

Essential Functions:
- The ability to have the fine motor control skills to perform the duties of the position.

Position Qualifications:
- Education: Any combination of training, education, and work experience which is deemed adequate by the State of California for issuance of a Clinical Laboratory Scientist license.
- Experience: 2–5 years work experience, demonstrating the ability to satisfactorily perform the responsibilities and duties of the position. Must qualify as a Technical Supervisor for all lab areas (except for the areas where an MD is required to perform the duties of a Technical Supervisor) per CLIA.
- Licensure: Must possess a valid California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.
- Skills/Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, coworkers, hospital and medical staff. Ability to cope with stressful situations on a regular basis. Ability to work without close supervision. Ability to work rapidly while maintaining quality. Ability to prioritize activities as appropriate. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills. Exercises good judgment, demonstrates initiative, emotional stability, tact and poise.
