Job description
Under direct supervision by department leadership, completes clerical and other technical lab duties in a timely and accurate manner, with quality that exceeds customer expectations. Takes pride in performing customer service tasks, executed at a high service level.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understand and perform to all applicable regulatory and compliance requirements.
- May support leadership during audits.
- Ship, receive, and track packages and specimens, as needed.
- Receive, classify, and process specimens in an accurate and expedient manner.
- Use appropriate systems to accurately perform data entry functions.
- Proofread own work for content, spelling, accuracy, and document format.
- Maintain sample integrity and ensure proper identification of all specimens.
- Prepare samples for laboratory testing, as needed.
- May perform reagent preparation.
- Operate, troubleshoot, and perform routine maintenance and calibration on equipment, as needed.
- Manage customer requests and resolve sample problems in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Use written and verbal communication skills to provide exemplary customer service to internal and external customers, and appropriately document interactions.
- Maintain organization of departmental records, as needed.
- Support the maintenance of reagent and supply inventory, as needed.
- Work weekend and holiday rotations, as scheduled.
- May train others on job tasks, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two years attendance at an accredited college, university or technical college with emphasis in a science/medical related field preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year customer service experience required and 1 year of medical related experience or training preferred.
- Data entry or LIS (Laboratory Information System) experience preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as Standard Operating Procedures, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and other department manuals.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Aptitude for computers and strong data entry skills.
- Ability to manage frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment.
- Good customer service skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Flexibility to work independently and with a team.
- Organized and able to efficiently prioritize multiple tasks to provide a productive workflow.
- Ability to work independently with structured written or oral instructions.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Understand time zones and military time.

- General office equipment (i.e. computer, printer, fax, copy machine, scanner).
- Personal Computer (desktop, laptop, tablet).
- Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Software systems (including but not limited to Customer Relationship Management Software, Laboratory Information Systems, Learning Management System).
- Lab/department specific equipment, including, but not limited to:
- Box cutter
- Pipettes (single channel, multi-channel, electronic, etc.).
- Centrifuge, freezers, refrigerators
- Water bath
- Automated cell washer
- Heat block
- Balances
