Job Profile Summary
Assist the Company in adding reserves and preserving existing property interests by handling individual land duties, as well as lead a team of landmen assigned to specific responsibilities focused on mineral leasing, leasehold acquisitions, acreage trades, mineral acquisitions, broker management, prospecting, and reporting.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise, direct, review, and coordinate subordinates and their work, as well as negotiate, draft, implement and interpret commercial agreements including, but not limited to, oil & gas leases, term assignments, trade agreements, operating agreements, and joint venture agreements.
  • Collaborate with subsurface teams to identify and acquire high-value assets to support a large-scale development program.
  • Effectively communicate essential information and project status to internal business partners: Surface Department, Subsurface Department, Accounting Department, Land Administration, Legal Department, and Division Order Department.
  • Work with the management team to create and implement Land goals for the department.
  • Generate and manage annual acquisition budget.
  • Manage, direct, review, and support the Company’s field personnel’s acquisition efforts.
  • Work with Director on devising and implementing acquisition processes, weekly reporting summaries, budget tracking protocols, technological enhancements, KPI metrics, and process improvement strategies.
  • Coordinate regular meetings with Land staff and present opportunities, recommendations, and status reports to the Management team.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Create a collaborative environment; continually teach and advise less experienced Landmen and direct reports.
  • Coordinate activities with Land and any other contract personnel engaged to assist.
  • Write and perform performance reviews for assigned subordinates, nurture and guide less-experienced Landmen; responsible for all performance-management related issues and concerns.
  • As part of the department management team, ensure that all team members receive the same information and “message” regarding the departmental mission.
  • Internal applicants should meet all eligibility requirements per employee handbook.

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a higher-level degree is required (emphasis on Petroleum Land Management, JD, Finance)
  • A broad knowledge of oil and gas law, real estate law, contract law, and general knowledge of Texas Railroad Commission, Federal, State, or other regulatory requirements, laws, rules, and regulations, particularly in the jurisdictions to which assigned, is also a prerequisite.
EXPERIENCE:
  • At least ten years of in-house petroleum land work-related experience with a large reputable company.
  • A significant portion of this experience needs to involve transactional experience, including unitization/RRC matters, negotiations with mineral and leasehold estate owners, and mineral and leasehold ownership determination from the public records.
  • Must have good negotiating skills and experience in dealing with industry partners.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to develop positive working relationships with other disciplines.
  • Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional presentation skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in cooperation with others.
  • Able to plan, organize, and prioritize personal work activities to accomplish work projects and goals.
