Job description
The assistant groundskeeper reports to Grounds Supervisor and will assist with everyday operations of campus maintenance. Will perform various horticultural and landscaping duties such as natural and synthetic playing field maintenance, mowing lawn areas, tree & shrub pruning & landscape bed maintenance. Other duties include general maintenance such as keeping the grounds clean of trash, debris & anything else that could upset an otherwise orderly condition. Experience in athletic playing fields, golf course or campus grounds required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of natural & synthetic turf playing field maintenance & game preparation.
- Basic knowledge of natural turf grass & horticultural practices.
- Basic knowledge of practices, work methods, tools, and equipment associated with the landscaping trade.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools associated with the landscaping field.
- Ability to follow detailed, written and oral instructions.
- Ability to exercise basic human relation skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships within the community.
Physical Demands May be required:
- Must be able to traverse in all weather conditions and work in extreme temperatures.
- Position requires the ability to stand, squat, reach and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to stand and walk continuously through shift.
- Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.
- Ability to exercise precaution in the handling of tools and equipment.
- May be exposed to dust, fumes, and odoriferous working conditions.
- Crouch, kneel, bend, or stand for long periods of time. .
- Work outside during inclement weather.
- Be subject to motor or machine noise.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
Essential Duties
- Maintain playing surfaces to safe & acceptable conditions.
- Assist with chemical applications to natural playing surfaces.
- Maintains various lawns and landscape beds throughout the campus by mowing, trimming, raking, weeding and clearing debris.
- Collects garbage throughout the campus and disposes waste by appropriate procedures and methods.
- Remove weeds and other debris from mulched areas and flowerbeds.
- Plant seeds, bulbs, flowers, shrubs, trees and other vegetation in designated areas.
- Trims trees and bushes
- Operates various landscaping hand tools and equipment such as leaf and snow blowers, lawn mowers, chain saws, trimmers and school vehicles.
- Maintains gardening supplies and recommends new equipment.
- Assists with snow and ice removal.
- Assists with various shipping and receiving of incoming shipments and delivering and picking up of material, as needed.
- Assist with special events for set-up, event security, and clean-up.

- Campus grounds.
- Exposure to all types of weather and extreme temperatures.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
