SUMMARY: To coordinate and lead a work crew in initiating and finishing assigned construction projects, and ensure that the quality of the work is in accordance with all applicable state, city and/or town laws and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Directly supervises all construction personnel including other carpenters, and support labor. Responsibilities also include assisting the president/company owner with interviewing, hiring and orienting new workers to the company and its policies and expectations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or a specialized diploma from a recognized trade school in areas related to carpentry skills and/or any of the following: electrical, plumbing and HVAC/heating. A minimum of at least 10 years experience as a skilled carpenter with at least 3 to 5 years as a foreman/crew supervisor. Must also have finish work skills that include cabinetry assembly/installation and crown molding installation.

COMPREHENSION SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret blueprints, building plans and designs.
  • Understanding and complying with technical procedures and building regulations/codes.
  • Ability to do layouts based on requirements of the project plan designated by the president/company owner.
  • Ability to effectively present information and instructions to workers, and respond to questions from supervisees, customers, suppliers and local town building officials.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to do basic math skills including the comprehension of units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions and decimals. Able to compute rates, ratios, angles and percentages using related tools of the trade to successful carry out all aspects of construction jobs assigned.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:

Individual must be able to comprehend and use relevant industry technology and/or software relevant to the industry especially in the area of project and materials management (such as BuilderTrend or other related software).

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, EQUIPMENT:

Valid and current Massachusetts or bordering state driver’s license required. Must have own power tools and equipment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand for up to 8 hours, walk, sit, use hands to handle or feel, reach or extend. The employee is also required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds or more..

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to heavy-duty equipment and moving mechanical parts, power tools and other tools of the trade, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
