Lead Material Handler

We seek an energetic, self-motivated and detail-oriented Lead Material Handler who excels in a fast-paced, distribution environment at accurately receiving incoming inventory, product storage and warehouse layout, among other key responsibilities. This opportunity is located in the Minneapolis headquarters office. GVS currently operates two warehouses totaling approximately 30,000 square feet across one campus at the headquarters location. This position reports to the Warehouse Manager and also maintains crucial relationships with our Sales team. The starting compensation for the Forklift/Material Handler is commensurate with relevant job experience.

Lead Material Handler Key Responsibilities:

  • Accurately receive incoming inventory
  • ---Inspect and count product against purchase orders/vendor pack slips
  • ---Note damage and process per GVS policy
  • ---Process completed incoming inventory paperwork for Accounting team
  • Stock inventory/supplies
  • ---Break down mixed skids, re-palletize to store keeping like products together
  • ---Assist Client Service Manager in tracking inventory for current and future projects
  • ---Store and protect special order product separately
  • Memory is an asset to warehouse management, delivery drivers and sales team
  • ---Help locate product quickly to expedite delivery driver turn-around time.
  • ---Understand and manage stock locations and layouts within 2 warehouses.
  • Rotate inventory stock for FIFO product management
  • Process material returns
  • Assist in warehouse cleanliness
  • Takes care of shipping needs that arise including packaging, palletizing, and documenting
  • Complete weekly cycle counts, in conjunction with Certified Material Handlers and Accounting
  • Organize inventory for bi-annual physical counts
  • Key participant in bi-annual inventory physical counts
  • Assist customers by pulling and loading product
  • Maintain solid communication with Warehouse Manager and Sales team to ensure inventory control
  • Work with management and the team to continuously improve and streamline our current processes and aides in developing new processes

Lead Material Handler Key Qualifications:

  • Forklift driving experienced is required
  • 3+ years previous experience preferred
  • A strong focus on safety
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
  • Ability to develop strategies for planning space for incoming inventory
  • Detail orientation on unloading and storing product
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
  • Expansive memory of product storage is an asset for our team
  • Ability to perform excellently under pressure
  • Capacity to work independently with dynamic inventory with limited storage space
  • Satisfaction from strategically managing inventory
  • Must thrive in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Excel at working in a non-slotted warehouse
  • Ability to provide best-in-class customer service through inventory control
  • Must be able to repetitively lift up to 75 pounds, bend and stoop
