Lead Oral Surgery Assistant

Job Title: Lead Oral Surgery Assistant
Full Time Pay- up to $23/hour based on qualifications

Description: Lead dental assistants work with other dental assistants and team members in the oral surgery practice.
They are expected to handle the same usual & customary duties performed by any other assistants in the practice, but also handle supervisory and administrative tasks as well.

Assistant Duties:

  • Familiarizing themselves with office policies and procedures
  • Lead the clinical team in the back office
  • Maintain and order clinical supplies, emergency crash cart drugs and equipment
  • Act as the liaison between doctor and supply company
  • Train new assistant hires and demonstrate standard operating procedures within the practice
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Intermediary for dentists and dental assistants to delineate and clarify feedback from both parties to help maintain communication
  • Report any issues with clinical or front office staff related to standard operating procedure to the doctor or practice administrator so they may be addressed promptly
  • Keep the dentist(s) and clinical team members informed of appointment changes, overruns, and patients in the waiting room
  • Greeting patients in the reception area and escorting them to and from the treatment rooms
  • Assist surgeon with patient intake
  • Chart preparation to be familiar with and able to prepare for upcoming surgical cases
  • Assist surgeon(s) during treatment procedures.
  • Assist surgeon(s) with typical procedures such as surgery, taking X-rays, charting, intra oral photos, and assisting with any other clinical procedures up to their legal ability.
  • Assisting with setup, breakdown, maintenance, clean-up, proper disinfection of surgical rooms according to regulation, stocking supplies and preparation of rooms, equipment & instruments daily
  • Prepare and sterilize surgical instruments, materials, and equipment in accordance with infection control and biohazard protocols.
  • Operate X-ray and 3D scanning equipment and develop radiographs for diagnostic purposes.
  • Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during procedures and while in recovery from anesthesia.
  • Provide patients with information on treatment plans, postoperative outcomes, and pre-and post-operative hygiene instructions.
  • Triaging post-operative phone calls
  • Maintain confidentiality of PHI, adhere to HIPAA laws and guidelines
  • Ensure that instruments and equipment are effectively maintained.
  • Provide excellent patient care at all times.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable means of transportation to allow timely arrival to the office daily

Education
High School Diploma or GED;

Graduation from an accredited dental assistant program preferred
CPR certification is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Focus on customer service.
  • Ability to communicate with others in a professional manner.
  • Attention to detail and well organized.
  • Preferred 1 year of Oral Surgery experience.
  • Motivating team player and leader.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications with the ability to learn new software.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform basic arithmetic to understand general ledger and insurance benefits.
  • Ability to read and comprehend advanced instructions, operating manuals, correspondence, and memos

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand chairside during long procedures, reach with hands and arms, lift, talk, hear, type, and see. Manual dexterity/ eye hand coordination is required. The employee is frequently required to stand and lift and or move up to 25lbs. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Work environment may be subject to interruptions, varying and unpredictable situations and time pressures related to multiple tasks. There is exposure to blood, chemicals, and cleaning supplies. Assistants are expected to wear the proper
PPE (safety glasses or shield, surgical mask, protective gown, and gloves) to protect themselves and patients from infectious disease.

Assistant must have completed or be willing to complete the Hepatitis B vaccine series
