Essential Functions


  • Maintain procedures that assure product and customer service quality, product disposition from Hold orders internally and externally, aged inventory policy.
  • May perform quality systems audits in conjunction with PCQI.
  • Communicate and enforce standards in the areas of regulatory compliance under guidance of the Quality Manager.
  • Notify Quality Managers, Manufacturing Manager and Superintendent of identified issues and ensure proper communication. Provide technical support for resolution of quality problems with Quality Manager.
  • Act as the technical liaison for QC department in the absence of the Quality Manager:
  • In conjunction with the Quality Manager, update and support food safety programs and food safety systems: HACCP, sanitation, and environmental monitoring program. Maintain the quality systems for the plant. Ensure work instructions, SSOPs, procedures and other pertinent documentation is up to date working with the Document Control Coordinator. Recommend revisions to production work instructions as needed.
  • Support the plant Food Safety & Quality System to produce safe quality food, acting as SQF Practitioner or equivalent until certified.
  • Initiate quality complaint investigations. Verify corrective action completion and continued conformance.
  • Lead/train and/or participate in internal audits and mock recalls while ensuring compliance to internal quality policies and applicable local regulations through the audits, observations, process reviews, and development of corrective actions with management.
  • Support facility during inspections, customer audits, communications, commercialization, and other interactions with regulatory agencies or customers.
  • Lead the plant Quality Improvement Program in the areas of specifications and trends review, complaint investigation and corrective action, and capability of the Quality team.
  • Responsible for the daily supervision of the Quality Control technicians in regards to training and development, assessment and motivation of technicians.
  • Maintains and communicates information of Quality staff issues to Quality Manager.
  • Understands each technician’s job and working with them on reducing products on hold.
  • Ensures the safety of all employees. Follows up on all quality and operational issues to resolution.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with quality management systems, SSOPs, Environmental hygiene programs, prerequisite programs and HACCP.
  • Knowledge of relevant GFSI standards such as FDA, SQF, MOSA, RSPO, USDA.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Food Safety regulations, FSMA and industry and market trends is desired.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Effective at organizing and managing multiple work tasks of a diverse nature.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
