Lead Quality Control Technician
WCD Covington – Covington, KY
Non-Exempt Position – Full Time
Hours may change to meet the needs of the plant
The Lead Quality Control Technician assists and supports the Quality Manager in various Quality areas.
What we are looking for:
- Bachelor’s or Associates degree in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology or equivalent work experience is preferred.
- Prior food processing experience preferred.
- Experience using laboratory equipment: scales, thermometers, and computers.
- Good computer skills with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and WMS/ERP.
- Human relations and good interpersonal skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have strong knowledge and experience with SQF, FDA, and USDA Regulations and Directives, HACCP, SOP’s, and GMP’s.
What you will do:
- Update PowerPoints and SOPs on the Alchemy System. Create, update, and correct SafetyChain forms. Clear product on WMS, signoff on recorders both paper and on Safety Chain, train and perform traceability exercises, and assist and work with USDA and FDA as needed.
- Pre-op inspection of the processing line according to established procedures. Collection of appropriate samples of finished product and raw materials, as specified, for micro testing. Review microbiological results, update microbiological clearance sheet, and communicate product releases.
- Perform on-line inspections of in-process product. Participate in HACCP, Food Defense, Food Fraud, etc. teams. Perform monthly internal audits and report findings of monthly audits.
- Online inspection of finished product; finished product and spiral freezer temperatures, run verification, and organoleptic evaluation. Check HACCP critical control point for cooked and metal detection steps. Ensure proper corrective actions are taken to maintain food safety.
- Inspect incoming raw materials and packaging. Food Safety and Quality Projects as assigned. Understand the traceability system and perform traceability activities as needed.
- Manage quality teamwork schedules. Assist with management of the quality team. Laboratory, quality cart, and equipment clean-up. Inspect, inventory, order, and maintain quality supplies.
Availability to Work & Physical Requirements:
- Flexible to change schedule and hours of work to meet the needs of the plant.
- Twisting and turning and ability to work within extreme temperatures (heat and cold).
- Ability to wear safety equipment.
- Must be able to be on feet for extended periods of time and lift, push or pull 20 pounds with regularity.
