Our flagship transitional work program-- Ready, Willing & Able-- integrates paid work, occupational training, and holistic supportive services to facilitate an individual’s return to mainstream society. The Doe Fund has an annual operating budget of $65 million and a full-time staff of 400+.

We are seeking a Legal Referral Specialist, the person in this role will be responsible for seeing clients throughout their stay in the RWA program and maintaining contact with them for 12 months after graduation.

Key Responsibilities:

Child Support

  • Works with participants to minimize and make child support payments manageable
  • Coordinates child support garnishment of clients
  • Serves as liaison between clients and the Courts and the Office of Child Support Services
  • Assists clients in managing Administration of Children Services cases related to their children, including outside of NYS
  • Assists clients in managing and pursuing visitations and or gaining custody of their children
  • Attends monthly partnership meetings with OCSS
  • Assist with parenting events
  • Fulfill other job duties as necessary

Record of Arrest and Prosecution (RAP) Sheets

  • Facilitates Legal Services Orientation on a weekly basis
  • Fingerprint participants for NYS and Federal RAP Sheets
  • Reviews RAP Sheets from FBI and DCJS for accuracy and potential errors
  • Responsible for collecting and ordering all RAP sheets as well as inputting data into the TDF database
  • Creates Conviction summaries for all participants
  • Assist with the sealing of criminal convictions
  • Fulfill other job duties as necessary

Qualifications:

  • You have an Associate’s degree
  • You have two to four years of experience working with social work experience and or workforce re-entry for those with significant re-entry barriers; especially the homeless and individuals with conviction histories
  • You have excellent interpersonal skills and excellent organizational skills
  • You’re able to travel to all three of The Doe Fund facilities in Harlem and in Brooklyn
  • You have strong oral and written communication, presentation, and networking skills
  • You’re able to manage multiple agendas effectively
  • You are flexible, creative, and have a solution-oriented approach to issues
  • You’re proficient in all Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, Word and Google drive
  • You’re able to work flexible hours
