Position: Home/Parent Liaison

Position Function/Purpose
To act as a liaison between the school and the parents of migrant students and provide accurate documentation which will satisfy government criteria
Major Responsibilities
- Supervise the migrant family and individual student records and the continued transfers to Region 18 ESC and the National Migrant computer
- Increase the communication between campus staff and parents through home visits, elephone and other methods
- Communicate daily with principals and teachers to secure information to be obtained form or given to parents
- Increase the attendance of students through direct methods; Regularly communicate to coordinator of federal methods; Regularly communicate to coordinator of federal programs, and migrant counselor concerning student and parent progress
- Recruit families that meet the qualifications for the migrant program
- Annually attend migrant update training for recruiting families, completing the certificate of Eligibility, and other state and federal rules and regulations
- Assist with the migrant students physicals and dental screening, make appointments with doctors for follow-up and transport students
- Assist families in securing clothing, food, and other emergency services
- Attend in-service training for Migrant, Title I, SCE and others
- Provide principals, teachers, and parents with information on other related medical, social, educational, etc. available in Midland
- Assist with Title I, Migrant, and SCE parental involvement activities and meetings
- Translate communications on campuses into Spanish for parents; Attend parent meetings to assist with translations
- Communicate to student, parents, and other community members the MISD policies and programs
- Assist with co-sponsored Migrant, Title I, SCE and other student activities like step up to success, Life Management training, impact, and other after school programs to improve success in school
- Work with Migrant coordinator, counselor, clerk and other staff members to maximize services available to students
- Regularly check secondary students for excessive absences and for three-week progress reports; Directly communicate to parents about their student's progress, through home visits, telephone, and other methods
Qualification Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- The ability to speak, read and write Spanish
- Basic computer skills
- Basic typing and filing skills
- Good people skills
- Possess, or be willing to apply for a TEA Paraprofessional Certificate (personal expense)
