Job description
Employee will be involved in the construction, maintenance and removal of overhead and underground electrical transmission lines and secondary services. This position qualifies as safety sensitive under PSC guidelines.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Installs electrical distribution wiring and equipment, both overhead and underground.
- Cleans, maintains and operates hand tools common to the Lineman’s trade.
- Knows wire types and wire capacities, insulation types and recommended applications.
- Understands hazards of working with high voltages and precautionary measures.
- Understand transformer principles and able to complete installations of transformers, capacitors, lighting arresters and putting down anchors by hand or using the trucks.
- Capable of running lines to locate problems and working on high voltage and low voltage while energized.
- Maintain high awareness levels at all times regarding hazards of electric system, coordination of work with others involved, and maintenance of safety as a first priority.
- Able to operate trucks, equipment, devices and systems necessary to accomplish the various job assignments of a Lineman.
- Stock and service trucks.
- Attends any meetings and training regarding safety or as required by this position and/or the Superintendent of Utilities.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
Employee should be an experienced Journeyman/Lineman; Arial Bucket Lineman; Pole Lineman, a veteran climber and have experience with a digger derrick. Position requires knowledge of overhead and underground transformers. Employee must be experienced with hotline and underground high voltage work. Employee must possess a good knowledge of the service area for Kennett and its’ power sources and should have a working knowledge of other utility services and/or metering devices. Employee must have the ability and willingness to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Employee must seek to maintain good public relation practices when working with the public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND OR WORKING ENVIRONMENTS:
Able to tolerate and work in extreme weather conditions. Employee must be able to do manual labor (i.e., climbing, heavy lifting, working above the head). Position also involves handling hazardous materials (i.e., PCB, creosote). Employee is subject to being on call twenty-four hours a day in case of emergencies.

Residency Policy:
As of May 1, 2022, employees of City Light Gas and Water are required to live within a 10-mile radius, from 303 S. Anthony Street, Kennett, Missouri and are bound to the west by the St. Francis River located approximately 4.4 miles west, and to the east by Little River Floodway Ditch located approximately 3.85 miles east.
All new hires are required to adhere by this policy and must meet the residency requirements within six months of their hire date.
All employees shall have a telephone at their place of residence, landline or cellular service is acceptable. Unlisted telephone numbers will be permitted providing the number be made available to all departments of CLGW. If a cellular service is chosen, signal reliability is required. This is the responsibility of the employee.
General and Administrative employees must have a reliable internet connection furnished in the event remote work is forced. This is the responsibility of the employee.
Any employee violating the residency requirements may be suspended, demoted, or terminated by the Superintendent of Utilities.

Basic Qualifications
- Completed US Department of Labor approved Journeyman Lineman Apprenticeship or four years of work history as a Lineman preferred
- Must be a resident living within Kennett city limits or able to be within 6 months of accepting employment and capable of meeting the residency requirements as laid out in the job description
- Ability to be on call twenty four hours a day in case of emergencies
- Willing to rotate weekly on-call duty
- Willing to follow safety guidelines set forth by CLGW and the American Public Power Association
- Experience with hotline and underground high voltage work
- Class B or above Commercial Drivers License preferred
- Understanding and acceptance of the inherent dangers associated with Electrical Lineman work
