Description
JOB/POSITION SUMMARY: Perform the instructional and classroom management processes for a long-term vacancy, in order to ensure students’ continuous learning, safety and well-being, and academic achievement.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Executive Director of Human Resources
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Must have a minimum of 60 college credit hours or complete the 20-hour training offered by Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
- Experience working with youth is required
- Working on or conferred Bachelor's Degree in education is preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Missouri teaching certificate in any subject area or Missouri Substitute Certificate is required

SHIFT TYPE: Temporary
HOURS PER DAY: 7.66 hours/day
SCHEDULE: Starting in March, 2023 - Monday-Friday, 7:50am-3:30pm
SALARY: $115/daily (days 1-10), $188/daily (day 11+)
BENEFITS ELIGIBILITY: No
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides classroom instruction to students as outlined in lesson plans, and develops lesson plans/instructional materials as a part of a planned learning experience to motivate and engage each student
- Provides differentiated classroom instruction, aligned to state standards and district curricular goals, using a variety of strategies and materials based on students' individual needs
- Maintains established routine of the school and classroom procedures in which assigned; Creates a safe and orderly environment which is is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of all students
- Maintains reasonable rules of conduct which encourage self-discipline and responsibility
- Administers assignments/assessments appropriate to the grade level and maintains grades and/or performance reporting
- Monitors tasks in both large and small group interactions and provides specific feedback to students
- Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, administration, and/or seeking the assistance of district specialists
- When applicable, provides guidance to para-professionals, volunteers, and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Remains at school the entire school day, unless otherwise instructed to leave by the building principal
- Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility and maintains a professional appearance as an example to students
- Formulates positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families
- Maintains communication with students’ families to support the needs of each student
- Maintains confidentiality regarding staff/student information
- Supervises students in all areas of the school grounds and off school grounds when involved in school activities
- Participates in a variety of meetings (e.g. PLC, staff, department, district, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to performessential job functions
- Collaborates with professional learning communities, instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes and achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plans
- Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, lesson plans, progress reports, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to education code and school policies
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution
- Communicates effectively and professionally with parents, staff, students, and community members
- Completes other duties as assigned by building or district administration

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Ability, both orally and in writing, to present information effectively and respond appropriately to questions and concerns from individuals, administrators, parents, and students

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret lesson plans, technical procedures, and textbooks
- Ability to solve practical problems and address a variety of unexpected situations
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Basic knowledge in use of various digital platforms: Email, Google Docs/Sheets/Slides
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of school expectations/requirements
- Ability to implement lessons based on school objectives and student needs
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must speak, stand, talk, walk, see, hear, and, sometimes, sit on a regular basis
- Occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to read small print
- Frequently bend, reach above the head and forward, and use fine motor skills
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- The noise level will vary depending on the daily activity. It, at times, is very quiet in the classroom but often, as in the cafeteria and/or school assemblies, is moderate to very loud
- The employee must often meet deadlines and must report to class and/or duty assignments on time
- The work environment includes inside, and outside areas for supervision purposes
