The Position
We currently have an opening for a Maintenance Planner, this role reports directly to the Maintenance Manager. The Maintenance Planner is responsible for ensuring that work performed by Port Townsend Paper Company Maintenance or contract resources is properly scoped, planned, and scheduled to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of the Maintenance and Operations Departments. The role of the Maintenance Planner/Scheduler is to improve workforce productivity and efficiency by anticipating and proactively planning preventive maintenance and repair work. The primary duties of a maintenance planner are to create clear job plans for skilled crafts with parts from the BoM and time estimates. The individual will use the existing Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) (4Site for PTPC) to create Job Plans, and BoM’s, create work history files, organize Preventive Maintenance Strategies and Tasks into logical groups, events, and procedures including lead times to allow for efficient execution of shutdown activities and day-to-day Work Tasks. Inventory control, tracking, and consumption reporting are all parts of the integral process of planning and scheduling work.

Job Responsibilities
- Ensures work is planned to include all aspects of safe work execution, including all special tools being identified, lifts, scaffolding, and other access items and permits are identified and acquired, the right parts for the work to be performed, and the right number of resources are identified to complete the work safely.
- Maintains adherence to the work management process flow.
- Works closely with Operations teams, especially the Operations Maintenance Coordinator (OMC), to ensure that new work is identified (via Work Requests) and to align on prioritization of work to be planned and scheduled.
- Works with OMCs and Maintenance Superintendent to develop weekly and outage schedules that adequately utilize available Maintenance resource capacity and that define needs for external contract labor as required.
- Solicits feedback from Maintenance Tradespeople, Operations, and other customers to pursue continuous improvement of Job Plan quality and accuracy.
- Minimizes the use of contracts and outside resources by effectively using internal labor.
- Maximizes technician wrench-on time while managing the maintenance backlog.
- Ensures that routine, repetitive work activities are developed into Task Lists / Job Plans to improve the speed and accuracy of future work planning.
- Collaborates with Engineering to help develop job plans for helping execute project activities in the field.
- Creates plans for routine and annual outages.
- Develops and maintains knowledge of current and future Maintenance and Reliability Best Practices, especially as they apply to Work and Asset Management processes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of operational processes, maintenance workflow, and CMMS system utilization.
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are needed to function in a job capacity. Must be detail-oriented and have working mathematical knowledge.
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal customers, Trades, employees, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter that is comfortable performing and maintaining effectiveness in an ambiguous environment of changing priorities.
- Ability to prioritize and work simultaneously on several activities at the same time.
- Knowledge of and experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, and MS Projects.
- Communication/presentation and ability to facilitate discussions in a professional and effective manner.
- Time management skills.

Required Education
- High School (or equivalent) or higher.
- Trades background or familiarity is a plus.
Required Experience
- 5-10 years of previous experience in a Planner and Scheduler role.
- 5 years of Pulp and Paper experience preferred.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing as needed during the workday. The employee may be required to lift and/or move items over 10-15 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will sometimes need to work near operating equipment. The employee is occasionally exposed to shop elements such as loud noise, dust, and fumes.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Visual ability needed to work at the computer monitor for continuous periods of time.
- Job function also requires working in a seated position and utilizing the computer keyboard for continuous periods of time.
- Office desk work is required.
Employment Terms
- Full-time, Exempt position
- Salary range: $100,000 to $125,000 DOE.
- 2 weeks paid vacation or more depending on position.
- Full-time employees receive 160 hours of sick leave upon hire then earn eight hours of sick leave per month.
- 9 paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.
