DEPARTMENT: General Services Department - Highways & Utilities Division - Tree Crew

TYPICAL WORK SHIFT/SCHEDULE: Days, Monday thru Friday, Overtime is a requirement.

STARTING SALARY RANGE: $25.20 to 29.22 hourly, DOQ. Top of Scale: $33.90

JOB SUMMARY:

Participates in the planting, maintenance, care, and removal of the City's trees, shrubs, and urban canopy using an aerial lift and occasional climbing. Assists the General Services Department with winter street and sidewalk operations. Serves as a lead worker supervising a crew of assigned workers; Interacts with citizens, construction companies, and other representatives from other City departments and divisions.

Examples of Duties

Operate aerial lift for all tree care operations and other functions as required.
Assist with the planting and maintenance of trees, trimming along sidewalks, mowing roadsides and medians, cutting back brush in right-of – ways, removing trees and stumps, chip trees and brush in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Grinds Stumps.
Spray ROW for weed control.
Assist with the moving and replanting of trees and shrubs.
Install Christmas trees, holiday banners as well as other streetscape.
Assist other Departments as needed or directed.
Participate in plowing snow and salting/sanding roads and sidewalks in winter months. Overtime is mandatory.
Performs routine daily maintenance on equipment to ensure safe and efficient use.
Responds to emergency calls relating to tree and other Highways and Utilities Division Emergencies.
Transports Equipment and plant material utilizing truck and trailer.
Comply with Dig Safe as needed and as required by law.
Serves as lead worker in planning, assigning and assisting the work activity of the tree crew.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of progressively responsible experience in Arboriculture or any combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge; skills; and abilities required for the job.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
New Hampshire CDL B with Air Brake Endorsement; New Hampshire Arborist Association or International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist, or Equivalent or ability to obtain.

Current New Hampshire Pesticide License (Operational) for ROW, or ability to obtain.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing essential functions of this position the employee is regularly exposed or frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions, electrical hazards, work near moving mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, fumes or airborne particle, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, and extreme cold.
