Maintenance Technician – Automation and Controls
Role Summary
Performs preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance on a wide variety of manufacturing equipment. Activity will include diagnosing and replacement of both mechanical and electrical components. They will also be responsible for repairs and maintaining the building, grounds, and utility systems for the facility.
Position is responsible for repairing and installing production/manufacturing equipment. Inspects equipment for proper functioning and performs preventative maintenance duties per manufacturer's specifications. Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and makes repairs or adjustments as needed.
Provides advanced level of experience related to highly technical production equipment in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of electrical controls, sensors, HMI’s, PLC’s, VFD drives and automation controls.
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on production equipment
- Repair all production equipment as needed
- Perform breakdown analysis
- Perform general housekeeping
- Upgrade production lines with new equipment/technology
- Work with outside contractors
- Comply with GMP, safety, and audit standards
- Perform technical writing in the Maintenance CMMS system.
- Work independently under limited supervision (self-management)
- Documentation of work schedule and work tasks completed
Education
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and 2-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
- Ammonia operator experience is a plus but not required.
- Associates Degree in Electromechanical Technology or Certificate in Industrial Electronics and Maintenance or ability to obtain is required.
Knowledge
- Language Skills- ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Computer Skills- ability to use Email, Excel, and Word documents
- Mathematical Skills- ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Reasoning Ability- ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Experience with mechanical systems (e.g., gear boxes, chains, sprockets, motors, seals, bearings).
- Experience with product manuals (e.g., reading and applying knowledge to make repairs).
- Experience with troubleshooting mechanical breakdowns (pinpointing and fixing breakdowns).
- Experience with reading mechanical drawings (e.g., hydraulics, pneumatics)
- PLCs: AB, Siemens, Schneider, CompactLogix and ControLogix.
- Networks: Ethernet /IP, Sercos, DH-485, DH+ and Remote I/O
- Safety devices: Safety relays (PILZ and JOKAB)
- Software: RSLinx, RSLogix5, RSLogix500, RSLogix5000, PanelBuilder32, FactoryTalk View, BOOTP-DHCP Server, RSNetworx
- Inter-Machine Communications: Optimization control and process level interlocks.
- Skills on the following electrical testing devices to connect, set-up, and perform testing to troubleshoot plant issues: Multimeters: AC, DC voltage and amperage, milliamp, millivolt, OHM’s, frequency and min/max readings, Oscilloscope: AC, DC voltage and amperage, milliamp, millivolt, OHM’s, frequency and min/max readings, Power Logger: AC connections
