Summary
The Internal Communications Manager is responsible for developing communications strategies and deliverables for initiatives that drive employee engagement and build understanding of cultural and business initiatives. This person is skilled at developing trusted relationships with senior leaders and consults with and coaches them on communication strategies and tactics that will best achieve their desired results. Not only do they create clear, compelling technical/business and human interest content, they also know how to appropriately scale their recommendations to balance competing organizational priorities. This role develops strategic communication plans that reach various audiences and implements them by writing and editing content, developing presentations, and monitoring progress toward their business partners’ desired objectives.
This role reports to the Senior Director of Internal Communications. As a member of the Internal Communications team, they are also accountable for supporting internal communications channels, including our intranet, newsletters, meetings, and more.
This position can be located in North Dallas, TX or St. Paul, MN supporting our Internal Communications team and eligible to work a hybrid schedule, generally requiring work in-office/show site 2-3 days per week.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Strategic communications: Develops strategic communication plans for key partners, including providing coaching and counsel to leadership and developing and editing action-oriented and culture-building messaging and presentations. Plans consider the importance of the topic and audience, whether employee action is required, how it supports our organizational strategy, and consistency with the broader internal and external company messaging.
- Writing/editing: Creates clear, compelling technical/business and human interest content that appropriately balance competing organizational priorities. Distills complex topics into easy-to-understand, concise communications.
- Relationship-building: Develops strong relationships with key leaders/stakeholders to deliver strategic consultation and support. Leverages connections to grow their understanding of our business and their partners’ priorities and to build trust and confidence in internal communications expertise. Operates as a strong team player, collaborating with other communicators in the department to develop a coordinated and holistic approach to communications that builds trust and confidence internally with key stakeholders.
- Super User for internal communications platforms: You will be an expert in content platforms and partner with team for tools including SharePoint, PowerPoint, Poppulo, and more.
Education & Experience
- Writing sample required; will not be considered without
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related field
- 6-12 years of communications experience with progressively increasing levels of responsibility
- Experience working on IT and change management communications preferred
- Experience working with senior leadership and their teams
- Excellent writing skills with the ability to communicate complexity as a creative storyteller
- Ability to anticipate questions and concerns from business partners
- Expertise in developing messaging, communications plans, and strategies
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently
- Strong skills in fostering teamwork and delivering results
- Trustworthy with material confidential information
