Overview
Provides management, oversight and guidance to the Sponsored Projects Administration (SPA) Central Office personnel (Research Administrators, Research Staff Accountants, and Sub-Award Specialist) who perform the majority of the day-to-day tasks related to sponsored projects administration. Coordinates with staff and management to establish and maintain policies and procedures. Handles specific grants, contracts and audit issues and participates in the development of enhanced research policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Selects, trains, supervises, and assists staff with priority-setting; provides regular and constructive feedback on performance; supports the teams’ professional development and as necessary, counsels individuals for performance improvement.
  • Facilitates quality assurance for team, support job training for staff; mentors, motivates, and measures performance of the team; and ensures research administration of grants, contracts, subcontracts, and consortium agreements.
  • Works with peers and leadership to develop and implement policies and procedures related to grants management; focuses on the continuing implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with Corporate Finance for all month-end and fiscal year-end close out processes.
  • Assists with coordination of the annual Uniform Guidance Audit, including review of the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA).
  • Assists in discussions with auditors. Provides assistance in the identification and/or resolution of audit problems, as necessary.
  • Assists with complex problem solving around specific grant and contract issues.
  • Cultivates relationships with sponsors, PIs, and other stakeholders. to encourage more research opportunities at D-H.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in management, finance or a related field, or the equivalent in education and experience, with five (5) years of progressive responsibility in a professional-level administrative management position at a healthcare system, university, or comparably complex organization.
  • Certified Research Administrator preferred.
  • Five (5) years of research administration experience in a healthcare or academic setting.
  • Expert knowledge of federal regulations relating to grants, contracts, and research compliance a well as non-federal sponsored research.
  • Knowledge of cost accounting standards.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Standards.
  • Knowledge of Industry contacts, contracts, intellectual property concerns and how to foster these relationships while maintaining fiscal and intellectual integrity related to the best interests of Dartmouth-Hitchcock.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, private funding opportunities and mechanisms including budgetary updates, funding notices from different sponsor programs, and administrative requirements attached to the various sources of funds.
  • Experience working with research administration software applications both pre- and post-award.
  • Advanced project management skills.
  • Excellent skills to work collaboratively and act persuasively in sensitive situations; skills in conflict management techniques.
  • Advanced skills in strategy development, systems planning, and change management.
  • Technological proficiency including email, calendars, databases, and Office suite.
