Job Overview
The primary responsibilities of the State and Local Tax (SALT) Manager Indirect Tax will be to assure compliance with US indirect tax laws by the Company and track compliance with such laws by the Company’s brands, always in alignment with their specific business objectives and the wider Company finance strategy. While each brand retains the ultimate responsibility for its own indirect tax function, the Manager Indirect Tax will support the brands by, for example, coordinating the contribution to relevant US indirect tax policy work, keeping the brands informed of legislative changes, and acting as an advisor to the brands on relevant indirect tax matters including audits.
Responsibilities and Duties
Advise on and assure compliance with global indirect tax legislation by the Company with a focus on US state and local indirect taxes such as sales & use, hotel occupancy, and other similar taxes
Support the (indirect) tax function of the Company brands on US indirect tax planning strategies, audit (advisory) inquiries, and queries regarding various business and product matters to ensure cross-brand alignment. This work particularly includes the coordination of contributions to relevant US indirect tax policy work.
Support the monitoring of global indirect tax contingency reserves and tax risk positions of the Company brands with a focus on the US, ensuring that they are consistent with the Company’s finance policies
Support the drafting of US indirect tax compliance processes that may be streamlined and standardized across the Company brands to build business-managed tax control frameworks.
Contribute to US indirect tax awareness and appreciation within the group. This includes facilitating knowledge sharing between the Company’s brands on indirect tax developments and alignment on the implementation of similar business initiatives and/or new legislation.
Support the overall Company indirect tax function where needed including tasks related to global (non-US) indirect tax matters.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or other relevant fields
5-8 years of US indirect tax experience within a Big 4, legal firm and/or in a multinational tax environment
Excellent knowledge of US state and local indirect tax law with broad expertise across a diversity of topics and States. US state and local indirect tax audit experience and/or general knowledge of global (non-US) indirect tax legislation are a plus
Experience with the taxation of digital platforms, especially in the OTA business (in relation to marketplace facilitator bills, Hotel Occupancy Taxes, and SaaS and PaaS), is strongly preferred
Self-starter, flexible, energetic, passionate, self-motivated, detail and results-oriented professional
Ability to think strategically, multi-task, and work effectively and efficiently with minimum direction
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate complicated tax technical issues with different stakeholders

There are a variety of factors that go into determining a salary range, including but not limited to external market benchmark data, geographic location, and years of experience sought/required. In addition to a competitive base salary, roles are eligible to be considered for an annual bonus and equity grant.
The base salary range for Connecticut and the NYC metro area is $132,300-$161,700.
