Assists the Sr. Director of Administrative Services in planning, designing, implementing and maintaining a system-wide Corporate Compliance and Risk Management Program. Responsible for knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations affecting health care providers and not-for-profit institutions. Review and resolve legal matters including but not limited to probate, tort and litigation issues, for Masonicare and its affiliates, working with outside Legal Counsel. Serves as a primary risk contact for all risk related incidents. Works collaboratively with departments to expedite risk issues.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review, analyze, and coordinate timely resolution of compliance and legal matters for Masonicare and its affiliates working with the Senior Director of Administrative Services. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to new or existing governmental regulations related to federal healthcare programs, corporate, governance, business, tort, contract, tax and probate issues. Communicates with legal counsel and assists with the litigation activities such as responses to interrogatories and requests for production.

  • Participates in the identification of existing and potential areas of risk concern through continual monitoring, evaluation, tracking and trending of data and activities; coordinates improvement of these areas through collaboration of others in order to decrease risk to the corporation and provide high quality outcomes.

  • Reviews all incident reports relating to potential injuries sustained by employees/patients/residents/clients/visitors and follows up as necessary. Identifies all incidents which trigger a claim under any of the professional or commercial insurance lines, opens/reports claims as indicated, works with broker and appropriate insurer through claim resolution. Reviews and assists in the resolution of grievances by patients/clients and families in order to eliminate or minimize potential liability claims.

  • Conducts or assists with investigations such as root cause analysis to ensure a controlled investigative structure, thorough analysis and ensures investigations are completed in a timely manner with appropriate recommendations, documentation and follow-up. Effectively collaborates with key stakeholders to share findings of investigations, including root cause analysis, and to implement proactive strategies to reduce risk/loss and to demonstrate compliance effectiveness.

  • Assist the Senior Director of Administrative Services with reporting of indemnity and allocated loss adjustment expenses to all insurance and reinsurance underwriters and their representatives. Generates loss advice forms, sets timely reserves for indemnity and allocated loss adjustment expenses, maintains claim documentation. Assist with federal and state reporting in compliance with the insurance program.

  • Coordinate the annual process of obtaining Conflicts and Dualities of Interest disclosure statements from Board Members and Leadership Forum.

  • Coordinate the annual and ongoing review, update, approval and implementation of the compliance and risk management policies and procedures of Masonicare.

  • Creation and implementation of compliance and risk management training programs for board members, employees, agents, and volunteers including tracking of attendance, test results and certifications of attendees. Conducts training, as appropriate.

  • Review all contractual agreements for compliance with the compliance and risk management program. Respond to contract questions. Coordinate the routine review of expiring agreements to ensure timely notice of termination or renewal. Coordinate the filing and database management of all contractual agreements for Masonicare and its affiliates.

  • Assist the Senior Director with annual process of reviewing, amending and approving the corporate resolutions. Maintain Corporate Documents for Masonicare and its Affiliates including, but not limited to Corporate Board Meeting Minutes, Corporate Filings with the Connecticut Secretary of State, etc.

  • Receive and review Probate Applications relating to the Acute Psychiatric Unit and file same with the Wallingford Probate Court. Organize and facilitate all necessary Probate evaluations required by law, working with clinicians, the appropriate Probate Court, court appointed attorneys and court appointed physicians.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree in a healthcare related field. Registered nurse (RN) preferred


Experience: 5 years experience in non-profit healthcare environment related to healthcare statutes, regulations, accreditation obligations and/or legal matters.
