TxDOT's Abilene District is searching for a temporary Material/Process Tech III Trainer in Abilene, TX! This position reports directly to the Director of Construction and works to perform testing and inspections in laboratories, plants and points of supply, providing training to laboratory staff. This is a temporary, full-time position, which will last a duration of approximately 60 days.

Performs routine and non-routine material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
Material/Process Tech III:
Independently performs routine and non- routine material tests; as required moves material samples.
Informs plant personnel of material or production problems, rejects substandard material and assists in determining cause for material problems.
Inspects manufacturing processes and plant equipment in a manufacturing plant or inspects materials at point of supply to ensure materials conform to Department specifications.
Investigates compaction problems associated with hot mix asphaltic concrete.
Maintains and assists in calibrating equipment.
Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.
Travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs, meet with supervisors and managers to resolve problems and perform unannounced inspection of operations.
Cleans laboratory.
Maintains a diary of inspection or test details.
Prepares and types correspondence, reports and supporting documents; files, orders supplies and equipment.
Prepares inspection or test reports.
Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement.
Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for
Works on core drill or auger rig crew.
Conducts pavement evaluations in the field.
Handles material or production problems referred by less experienced inspectors.
Independently performs advanced material tests, inspects manufacturing processes and plant equipment in a manufacturing plant or inspects materials at point of supply to ensure conformance to Department specifications.
Maintains and calibrates equipment.
Performs tests and inspection duties and trains laboratory staff accordingly.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience:
Material/Process Tech III: 4 years laboratory work, material inspection or other eng-related activities.
(Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent). Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
