Job description
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for assigned commodities.
- Develop, implement and execute sourcing strategies for assigned commodities in alignment with business unit leaders.
- Develop and execute negotiation strategy for global materials and commodities.
- Create and execute negotiation strategy for CapX Projects.
- Build cost models to validate commodity strategies and understand cost drivers.
- Provide supply chain materials solutions, including Supplier Managed Inventory and consigned stock.
- Analyze global material acquisition and develop strategic plans to maximize efficiencies and maintain a high quality of customer service.
- Direct supplier selection, negotiate and interpret contracts between Powell and global material suppliers.
- Provide leadership in ongoing commodity cost reduction programs, and material inventory reduction efforts.
- Provide leadership and coordinate leveraging opportunities for Powell supply chain activities.
- Evaluate supplier quotations using appropriate negotiation and procurement analysis techniques and implement proper contracts with emphasis on quality, price, delivery, and service necessary to meet requirements.
- Develop budgets/standard cost for quarterly/annual operating and long-range planning for the defined commodity.
- Develop, present, and gain approval for hedge plans and cost forecasting models.
- Identify and determine strategy to implement process and tool improvements for strategic sourcing, tactical buying, and supplier payment.
- Work closely with R&D, Engineering, and Quality to improve innovation, cost, and reduce complexity and drive our overall strategy.
- Be accountable and knowledgeable on competitor analysis, market, benchmarks, legislation, and drivers of their commodities.
- Utilize institutional problem-solving tools/processes such as cycle time reduction and statistical process control, process mapping and root cause analysis.
- Gain a knowledge of any/all regulations, statutes, and laws regarding compliance requirements on commodities assigned. Define and implement appropriate procedures and processes for compliance.
- Must have a minimum of 8 years purchasing experience, preferably in the electrical/power component industry.
- Hold a Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain Management, Operations, Engineering, or related field.
- Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) credentials are an advantage.
- High level of negotiation skills (tactics, techniques, strategies).
- Experience with material purchasing is a must (preferably electro-mechanical components or metals).
- Experience with Cost Analysis, Financial Management/Budget management & supplier negotiation.
- Previous work with Oracle is an advantage.
- Must have a solid understanding of total cost, target cost, time value of money, and other aspects of supplier quotes.
- Working knowledge of terms and conditions is required.
- Must be able to communicate effectively across multiple cultures and work well in a global team environment.
- Strong PC application skills including complement of Microsoft Office software.
- Strong planning/project management skills.
- Temperature controlled working environment.
- Typical office environment: may experience minor discomfort from extensive use of a computer display and keyboard; travel between buildings on campus and between campuses.
- Some travel required (10-20%).
- Maintaining body equilibrium and agility to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching, ascending or descending stairs.
- Sitting, standing and walking for long periods of time.
- Typing, punching or applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm.
- Perceiving size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with the fingertips.
- Using upper extremities to apply or exert a force up to 20 lbs.
