MATERIALS FLOOR COACH

FLINT, MI - PLANT


The Materials Supervisor is first line support leadership assisting the self-directed work teams on the production floor. Incumbents in this position provide support of all materials functions by assisting plant employees in daily assignments, tasks, training, and work schedules to meet day to day expectations within a JIT automotive plant.


The Role:

Your work will include, but not be limited to:

  • Review all hi-lo checklist (get repair as needed).
  • Counts parts and validates on hand inventory when needed.
  • Ensure material drivers unload trucks on a timely basis.
  • Advise team leader on keeping part labels up to date on racks/bins.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and carriers with scheduling and movement of production materials.
  • Tracks inbound freight with carriers and vendors to ensure timely delivery.
  • Verification and posting of inbound material through ASN procedures.
  • Verifies outbound trailers for product left on trailer.
  • Complete daily housekeeping walks and address any non-conformances timely.
  • Reports all departmental deficiencies to Assistant Material Manager/Superintendent.
  • Completes Material Supervisor checklist daily.
  • Keep hourly employee files up to date with contacts, disciplines, etc.
  • Assist team leader with completing all paperwork for truck drivers.
  • Communicate shortages and safety stock needed to supply base.
  • Complete any actions required from Health & Safety meeting.
  • Train all material personnel on forklift operations.
  • Assist all material personnel with any issues.
  • Ensure all parts are stored in correct locations according to PFEP/WMS setup.
  • Ensure team leaders are always completed required tasks.
  • Verify receiving and shipping logs are up to date.
  • Check in inbound trailers against supplier shipper for accuracy.
  • Assist in other material operations as needed to cover vacations.
  • Participate in at least one kaizen even through the year through completion.
  • Participate in continuous improvement suggestions and follow through to completion.
  • Assist with preparation of loading and shipping documents through completion.
  • Locates all HOT seats and ensure timely availability by coordinating efforts between production process, material, and quality reviews.
  • Always keep finished goods inbound and outbound running.
  • Maintain constant material flow within plant from sub assembly modules to JIT lines for builds.
  • Maintain communication with customer plant – Material Department as needed.
  • Ensures all quality sort material has been sent to quality and inventory has been moved in the WMS system.

Your Qualifications:

  • Prior automotive and/or manufacturing experience
  • Prior experience leading a team in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective distribution of goods
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination

Bonus If You Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
  • Prior JIT experience in a Materials related role
  • Prior experience working in a seating assembly manufacturing environment
