Job description
The Michigan Community Service Commission (MCSC) sponsors VISTA projects in over 60 organizations throughout the State to empower low-income communities and underserved youth to be healthy, safe environmentally conscious, and succeed in school and/or work. This Summer, MCSC has opportunities for Summer Associates within the Commission and in partnering organizations throughout the State. Choose to serve remotely, in-person, or a combination of both. You must reside in the State of Michigan and within a commutable distance from the selected Host Site Organization. MCSC Associates assignments consist of identifying nonprofits and supporting volunteerism, increasing nominations of volunteers and organizations in the State’s heroes’ campaign, developing disaster preparation plans for townships, creating community outreach materials, planning volunteer award ceremony and conference events or assisting with training development. Summer Associates can also apply to be placed with partnering organizations to support initiatives to supply families with resources; empower youth expression regarding social justice issues; support urban farming, food distribution, and nutrition education; assist with youth summer education camps, summer learning loss and summer melt; support environmental issues; assist with mental and physical health services, support student employment programs and more.

Member Duties : Summer Associates may actively engage in both direct and capacity building service. Direct service may include collecting and distributing food supplies, and other resources to residents; supporting urban farming and neighborhood revitalization; mentoring and coaching youth in summer learning programs; camp counseling; leading summer programs; supporting student employment; serving veterans; serving seniors; and more. Capacity building activities may include supporting nonprofit fundraising, recruiting volunteers, creating programs, developing social media marketing, and creating sustainable processes
