Great news! Schillings is currently looking for a Mechanic based out of our Mokena, IL location. We offer competitive pay along with a full package of benefits and opportunities for advancement. This position will be full-time with no nights or Sundays. A typical shift is 6am-4pm, Monday-Friday, year round.

Responsibilities:

• Work on private fleet in clean, safe shop facilities
• Provide bumper to bumper preventive maintenance service and/or repair to all company vehicles, including diesel trucks/semi’s (up to Class 8)
• Keeps equipment available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules; installing component and part upgrades, controlling corrosion; completing winterization procedures
• Electrical troubleshooting, tire maintenance, transmission repair, brake and air conditioning system repair, as needed
• Support two locations for all mechanical repair needs (St. John & Cedar Lake, IN)
• Diagnose and repair vehicles that are not running properly
• Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems
• Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs
• Complies with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards
• Perform DOT Pre & Post trip inspections
• Diagnosis air brake systems and components
• Handle road service calls, as needed
• Other duties, as assigned
• Need to have basic hand and air tools

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• High school degree or equivalent
• 3-5 years’ experience
• Class A or B CDL required
  
• Basic knowledge of diesel trucks, air brake engines, and other technical understanding
• Tooling, supply management, mechanical inspection tools
• Ability to problem solve, strong attention to detail
• Communicate effectively within the department, while maintaining a positive attitude
• Keep track of all the vehicles being serviced
• Must be able to lift heavy equipment and parts regularly
• Be punctual and reliable; while working in all weather conditions
