POSITION: Mechanical Engineer

LOCATION: Redstone Arsenal

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Less than 10%


POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: The Mechanical Engineer will serve in the System Engineering and Integration Directorate with responsibility for mechanical engineering support of facility operations. Primarily supports military installations through the Base Operations Services and Support (BOSS) or Installation Support Services (ISS) contracts while supporting other installation and operational energy and engineering tasks as required. The Mechanical Engineer will be involved in multiple projects for trouble-shooting, testing, repairing, maintaining, and designing renovations for these systems. The Engineer will collaborate with various supervisors of multiple departments tasked with building repair and renovations, and utility-level maintenance and improvements.


The Engineer will assist customer managers and supervisors to fulfilling electrical engineering requirements. The Engineer keeps a “safety-first” approach for all work. This position requires an entrepreneurial spirit, flexibility, and a desire to deliver unparalleled customer satisfaction.


PRIMARY DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provides engineering support for buildings & structures, equipment and utility systems operations, maintenance, repair, and construction activities.
  • Manages planning, design, and scheduling of assigned projects.
  • Performs mechanical engineering surveys for cost reduction, to improve work methods and increase efficiency.
  • Provides technical consultation to, and coordinates with other engineers, electrical, environmental, and civil, and with construction tradespersons and maintenance personnel, along with all users, and supervisors.
  • Serve as a technical liaison with the Directorate of Public Works (DPW), the Army Corps of Engineers (COE), architect and engineer (A&E) or design/build companies providing advisory reviews and recommendations as required.
  • Provides technical input to the Annual Work Plan process.
  • Provides technical advisory service to the Directorate of Public Works in developing criteria for equipment installation, maintenance, repair, and construction requests.
  • Identifies spare parts requirements for mechanical systems.
  • Keeps ahead of emerging trends and technologies for electrical systems and project development tools. Uses computers and software such as, Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), project tracking programs and other tools to solve engineering problems and facilitate work. Keeps current on relevant software applications.
  • Prepares operating plans in accordance with assigned requirements of the BOSS Contract.
  • Provides operational drawings and operating & maintenance procedures to maintenance shops.
  • Performs systems assessments and prepares associated reports and project documentation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of a broad range of engineering and construction standards, methods, practices, materials, electrical equipment, HVAC systems and controls, and lighting.
  • Knowledge to determine compliance with federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
  • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing; and maintain good working relations.
  • Must have valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Pass any background checks and/or drug testing required by contract.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance at SECRET level, post-employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Membership in professional engineering organizations.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Reliability Leader (CRL)

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Must have a minimum of PE and at least seven (7) years operational experience as an Mechanical Engineer or must have an Undergraduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering with at least 10 years’ experience in the field of mechanical engineering – or a sufficient combination of advanced degreed education and experience.
  • Additional certifications, and experience with professional facilities, program/project management, and/or logistics is a plus.
