Mechanical Design Engineer

MerchSource is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team in Irvine, CA. MerchSource, a ThreeSixty Group Company is a $400.0MM consumer products company that designs and develops consumer products and solutions in the areas of Toys, Home Comfort, Wellness, RC and cross-category gifting. Brands include the iconic Sharper Image, FAO Schwarz, Vornado, and Discovery Kids.

The scope of the position broadly covers concept collaboration with our award-winning Industrial Design team. Qualified candidates will design engineering of plastics, proof of concept prototyping development, DFMA, FEA, and quality control with our manufacturing partners. To achieve this, the candidate should be self-driven, have good time management, work well in teams, and have strong presentations skills. All applicants should be fluent in 3D CAD generation. Professionally, we are looking for candidates who think creatively around previously unsolved problems. Personally, we are looking for candidates who are collaborative and fun to work with.

Core Competencies & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 3-7 years professional experience in consumer product design engineering.
• Proficient in CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred) + Knowledge of complex surfacing techniques
• Educated in materials selection and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).
• Experience generating intended Bill of Materials / Recommended Assembly Methods for the Manufacturer.
• Tooling Plan Development (injection molded parts).
• Manage communications with manufacturing partners.
• Knowledge of volume manufacturing processes.
• Experience in developing mechanisms, prototypes, and plastic 3D printing.
• Excellent critical thinker and creative problem solver.
• Good verbal, visual, and written communication skills.
• Collaboration with design, marketing, merchandising, and project management related cross functional teams.
• Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Hybrid Schedule: Our team has transitioned back to working in the Irvine, CA office on a regular hybrid schedule. At present, most team members are expected in the office an average of three (3) days a week
